7 splits in a single game
« on: September 27, 2007, 10:24:10 AM »
Ever have one of those games.??
No matter what I did, the ball sucked dead nuts into the 1 like it was a magnet. Tried aiming right, it would hook more, right into it. Tried aiming left, hoping to hit brooklyn and salvage some sort of score, and I swear the ball would make an S curve right back into the 1.
I tried everything short of turning around and throwing backwards with my spare ball.

It happened on my third game of the night. Threw 3 other games, with only 2 splits between them. They were all decent games.

I had 6 splits once with 3 moves each and 2 different balls, it was funny thinking back on it. I think my score was around 118 or so, it was the first 6 frames of a 1 st game.

One other time i go 10 strikes in a row and double nuts that was even funnier, not then but since getting a 300 it all is funny about my horrible bowling adventures.

Btw i still suck and love easy hooking patterns, i do not care about even bowling on tough patterns did that for a few summers did not make me any better any worse.

Yeah, I shot like a 110 the first time I bowled on the Shark pattern.  One board left was a guaranteed split.  One board right was going to be a washout.  I left like 5 splits that game probably and chopped a bunch of other spares.  Horrible.  I finally moved left and used a pearl to get the ball to not hook at the arrows and I shot like a 190 the next game.  (I never did figure out the Shark though, I had a ton of 160 games on it.  I never could get an even reaction and I left a TON of 10 pins when the carrydown hit.  The only PBA pattern I couldn't at least average 190+ on)

A guy in my league had four 7-10 splits in the same 3-game match last week. This guy is a good bowler with a 212 average. Does anybody know what causes a 7-10 split. Anything wrong in the release? or just bad luck?

Hard down lane jerk into the pocket with the slighest bit of a off spot rack and you can leave them all day.

If you watched the Motel 6 shoot out on TV this spring, the center where they were at is a burnt wood surface. The TV pair occasionally spotted bad racks. The surface started to burn and the ball started to jerk, voila blower 7-10's in 3 out of the last 4 frames.

I had 5 in one game this past Sunday. During the summer in a three man league we left 18 as a team in one game. It happens.

After struggling the first two games with a 150 (1 strike on the fill ball), and a 180 (4 strikes and a couple opens and a split), I started the third game with 6 open frames.  I finally got my lone strike in the 7th frame, and almost spared out for a 120 game.  There were too many shots that I thought should have been strikes that weren't.

Both teams had the same problem, but it seemed like it was my turn to get stung on Wednesday.

And I did have a 182 average (and climbing) before that fiasco.

If ever there was an argument for a ball change, that's it.  That ball has already shown that it's not interested in anything but nose hits, you can't give it more chances than you have to.  You can only make adjustments for so long before you run out of frames.

yep, last night my first game went:

3-10, pocket 4-10, ringing 10, 4-6-7-10, ringing 10, 4-6-7-10, 4-9, blistering 9 pin, and a baffling 8 pin. A month's worth of bad breaks in 1 game. 152.

Midlane is a beautiful thing, I was missing it last night.

Had this one already -  exact same lien, same pocket hit - same split. Amazing!
My personal split record is 5 in a row, when I was recently testing a freshly resurfaced Awesoem Finish to figure out what the ball would do with a new surface prep. Most astonishingly, any line I tried ended up in a different split...

I think my max for one game is around 6, but I have bowled a set where I left 12.  It usually happens when I'm slumping (like right now) when good shots don't carry and bad shots leave grandma's teeth.  Last Wednesday I managed to leave back-to-back pocket 7-10 splits.  The first one was probably a bad rack.  The second one was of the light pocket swisher variety.
