8 10 Split?
« on: December 05, 2007, 02:34:17 PM »
I was bowling the first game in my league yesterday (Tuesday), I started with 7 striaght strikes, then on the 8 frame I hit the pocket flush and left a 8 10 split. It totally ruined my game.

So my question is, how the hell do I leave a 8 10 split after nailing the pocket? It only happened once, but it really pissed me off.

I can leave stone 8's and solid 10's, why not leave them both in one shot? Haha. Can't say that I've ever done that. I'd be sooo frustrated. I opened up with the front 7 once and left a 10 pin. Bounced the ball outta the gutter and picked it up.

No, I hit the 8 pin head on.

If I leave an 8-10, and I don't leave them often, I usually find it's just a case of the ball running out of energy before it reaches the pins, and hitting them flat. You can tell if you listen to it, when it hits the pins, it's a very different sound.

You're ball makes it to the pocket and gets smacked around by the pins because it's rolled out.

normally when im playing deeper..im a lefty so like ten out to five...no seriously but when i move inside around 15 i havea habit of really helping the ball and it becomes a struggle to not turn it early, but one i do its an 8 10 looking at me right in the face...kinds suckssometiems because the shot before i will see the 8 or the 10 fall late to even remind me to stay behind the ball

For me a split like an 8 - 10 happens if I just flat off miss the ball at the bottom...

...it's one of those massive "oops shots" that happen from time to time.

The two most common causes of the 8-10 are either the ball rolling out, or catching a little too much oil and hitting light.  Several weeks ago, I had the front 9 strikes, and in the first ball in the 10th I got the ball off my hand about a board further left than I wanted, and it left a blower 8-10.  It happens.

I've never left the 8-10 on a flush pocket hit. I've never left the 8-10 with a resin ball, period. I do leave the 8-10 once in a while on a light hit when throwing plastic. It's just deflection and lack of angle.

an 8-10 split is usually caused by one of the follwing:

too much ball speed
you're not quite lined up yet
carrydown
not enough roll on the ball
pin(s)off spot

Late/steep entry angle on the shot rolled past the 8 pin and everything missed the 10.

I agree with GREG HOPPE, all the 8-10's I ahve ever seen or even left myself is because of what he described, mostly though it is because the ball looks good, just doesn't have the same roll, no drive just flat

Agreed.  I was always told its because the ball hits flat.  No fingers & No hand.

I believe he is right handed (7-9 would fit your description for him).
