Title: 800 without a 300...
Post by: jd1319 on January 28, 2004, 08:33:36 PM
I was wondering if there were many bowlers out there who have shot the 8 without getting a 3.  I've had many 279 in my life, but have never gotten the 3, but my high series keeps creeping up, to the point I think I'll crack 8 first.  Is this normal?  My high series is now a 788 at it would have been an 8 if I didn't blow a 4 pin and a baby split that night.

All 3 of my 800's have been without a 300.

1st: 278, 258, 289 for 825 (had the first 10 then left a 9 pin)
2nd: 278, 277, 277 for 832
3rd: 258, 290, 264 for 812

For some reason I just can't throw anymore than the first 9 but I don't know how many times I've finished a game with the last 9, 10, or even 11.

I've never shot either, but I'd take an 800 over the 300 any day!

Anyone except me can get lucky and throw a 300 these days, but luck usually runs out well before the 800 mark...

Most 800's around here dont include a 800. Remember all you need to break a 800 is a 266 266 266 = 800. No 300 needed.

my first 800, had a 223 the first game, followed up with 290, 287.

in the 223, I had 73 in the 5th.  took it off the sheet.  started game two with a solid 8, took it off the sheet, started game three with a solid 10, took it to the 12th frame where I got slow and left a split for 800 on the nose.

man that felt good.

Just had 279 - 289 - 258 = 826 this week.  And I had another with a 295.    I think the other 5 I have had all had a 300.

Who needs a 300 or 800, when I have a 294 and a 295!?!?!

I've got 4 800 series and none of them included a 300 game.  Oh, wait, that't because I'm one of few that haven't shot 300!!!  My fault!

Damn, people have bowled an 800 with no 800, wow! And I believe 3 266's make a 798. Not quite an 800. Haha, anyways, my first eight was in November, and it was an 811, dont remember the scores, but no 300. IMHO, I think it is harder to get an 800 with a 300 in it.

My very first 800 was 807 - no 200 - 266-264-277 ... Don't remember the order of the games, but those were the games.
My second, and only sanctioned one, was 280-289-242 - 811.

I've only had one 300 - it was banked by 247-300-235 for 782.

Only two of the 5 800's had a 300.
Best one didn't - 276-277-288 841. Only game remotely close to a 300 was the last one. I think I left a 2-5 on the 10th ball, but I'm not sure. It was way back in the Black Hammer urethane days.

My first 800 was 222-300-279  23 strikes in a row. 4 frames from perfection !!!
2nd 800 was 289(8pin)-299(10pin)-247. 4 frames from perfection !!!

Have fun !!

The original post is vague.  It states shooting an 8 without getting a 300.  It doesn't clearly state shooting an 8 BEFORE the 300.  I am sure that with this many posts of people chiming in the number of 800s without a 3, they think the same thing.  If this is the case, my highest of 15 800s (843), came without the benefit of a 300.  I remember 296-278-269=843.  What is a bummer for me, is that I have also had 3 800s where I had 2 300s in that same set.  Transition gets me from the elusive 900 (not that it is an easy task).
