We had an 82 year old shoot 278 in our league this week.  Lefty, left a fast 6-10 in the ninth.  Averages about 185.

Well, that moves me down another notch in the USBC record books. I was 77 when I rolled my 800 and I think at the time I was the 3rd oldest to have done so.

That's OK 'Bones, you'll have a chance to regain that spot in a few years!

No, no no.  You guys have it all wrong.  It was the ball that did it.  No, he was shooting on a wall sixty feet high.  Sprayed it all over the lane, couldn't hit the same mark twice, had a 15-board area.

Remember, we're upset that anyone and their brother can shoot an honor score.  His accomplishment cheapens bowling for the rest of us.  Makes our noble sport look easy.  I mean, if someone reads about him in their paper, they're gonna think that it's not a big deal if an 82-year-old can do it.  A geezer like that can do what the pros can?  What makes them so special anyway?  I mean, there are guys at my house shooting 225+, just like the pros.  They should be on tour.

Right?

well said Shelley... sounds like the folks on the thread about the 17 year old shooting 900.

Why is it so terrible for a 17 year old to accomplish perfection, but we applaud when an 80+ year old does something great???

Wow. Strange. Is it because most of us are jealous of what the 17 year old accomplished, since none of us have done it - but envious of the 82 year old, and hope to do the same some day???

Strange thing - human nature!

I will be bowling until then for sure. I just know that I will be. I can relate to that last part saying, "If I didn't bowl, I wouldn't do anything.

I’ve known and bowled with Jean and his sons in leagues off and on for 20+ years.

I doubt if I’m still bowling at that age even if I happen to survive that long. It hurts in too many places now let alone 30 years from now.

Sawbones I’ll pass along your congrats when I see him next time.

Shelley,

Give the guy his dues! He had the ball in the pocket, picked up a few spares, but most would agree he had a night like we dream of... everything went his way!
He still had to throw the ball and make the shots to score.

Mumzie got it.  I'm sorry you didn't.    I got so caught up in the threads bashing the kid who shot 900 last weekend that I forgot that we are allowed to congratulate some people for a lesser acheivement.  I guess it just depends on who does it.  An 82 year old shooting 802 or 804 or whatever is adequate reason to celebrate while some punk-azz kid who shoots 900 isn't worth the oil on the lane.
