868

Went to the local white trash shootout tonight.  3 games of qualifying.  The guy that qualified first shot 868.  He only had 63 pins of handicap per game!  Can't dog him though, he's a cool guy that tries hard.  Just got a new ball, and it's really helping him bowl better.  He's still a handicap league hack, but he's one of those guys you can be happy for.  Still, bowling in tournaments where people have that much handicap is pointless.  90 percent of 220 in a house that 220 average bowlers elsewhere will most likely not do as well is pretty brutal.  When a 150 average bowler just has to shoot 3 170's to make 700 with their handicap, it really takes the wind out of your sails.  All that means is an extra spare or strike every game, for a scratch bowler, shooting 700 means they need an extra turkey every game.  I mean really, you could have 27 strikes in a CLEAN set and not shoot higher than 720.  I had one strike in my first game tonight, the rest were spares and I shot 185.  I'm intensely proud of having a clean game with that many spares, especially with my spare game being the way it is right now, but it just won't get it done when I only get 3 pins of handicap a game.

Cocky?  I'm not cocky.  I'm the proud owner of a 280-742 set with a White Dot.  So, who wants to touch me?  . . . . . . .  I SAID WHO WANTS TO F*#%!&G TOUCH ME?!?!

Man!  I'm like the white Larry Bird!

i was bowling a handicap tournament once, the last one iwent to besides like hoinke n places like that.

Had matchplay, facing a guy with a 135 average, he shot 258 and shot 345 with handicap, meanwhile i was bowling scratch and shot 279 and lost by 70 pins. Somehow i had to figure out how to shoot 345 scratch to beat him. Last handicap tournament i bowled in.

Ooops, once shot 899 in a handicap tourney Drat 8 on the last ball!

But I've always thought that I could beat that scratch.

I dream big!

REgards,

Luckylefty
PS I realize probablity of shooting 8xx is dramatically lower than shooting 7xx scratch even for a person who has become more skilled.
PPS Saw a guy flush the pocket the other night for 20 staight balls, two bad throws then that he spared and then another 12 flush.

32 perfect throws two so so with spares 788.  800 is hard.  I thought he was going to go 879 in the 2nd game 8th frame!  He looked perfect every ball till then.  Had 8 in a row to start every game!

handicap tournaments should never be held at 90% across the board . . . i think the best all-around solution would be a tiered system:

150 and below:  70%
151 to around 185:  80%
over 185:  90%

wouldn't that be  more fair overall, while still allowing lower average bowlers the opportunity to compete??  let's make 700 a good score in tournaments again!!
