Changing from 16 to 15 lbs
« on: July 11, 2012, 09:42:15 AM »
Hey all. I have been throwing 16lbs probably for the last 9 years or so (i'm 23). I don't have a backswing, and i mean like nothing. Just the way I have bowled for as long as I can remember. Anyway, i'm thinking of switching to 15lbs. Not in hopes that I get a bigger backswing, but just for the feeling. I am able to throw some of my friends equipment that is 15lbs, and it just feels like i'm throwing it better and more smooth. Is there a big difference in the way the balls will react when I make the switch that I should be aware of? I know the rg is a tad lower in 15lbs.

Also for my finger inserts. I use Turbo 11/16 in middle finger, and 21/32 in my ring finger. I don't have tiny hands, but I like having a tight fingers. Well atleast I thought I did. Last night I was bowling on Shark in a PBA League and none of my equipment was reacting well, so for kicks I threw my friends pin down full swing up 7. Used it the whole night and shot 645. Its 15lbs, and the fingers are alot bigger, not sure of the actual size. Would the bigger finger grips have a factor in throwing the ball better? Like I said Ive had relatively the same grip size for a while, and ive bowled well, just wondering if there is something that I can change.

I know that was a long post, thanks for reading!

I switched over to 15lbs back in Dec of 2010. I had used 16 lbs up until that point. I started to have  hand and wrist pain. so I decided to switch. I am so glad that I did. I have just as good,if not better ball reaction, also  my hand and wrist pain is gone. I do feel smoother at the line and I have more control. I believe you will like the switch. As for the grips, i would suggest trying them out first, that to me is a comfort issue and I would use whatever makes the ball feel better on your release. I personally use the clear turbo grips. they have a spongy type of a feel that I like.
