I have to admit the fact that a new one being shot every 3 weeks now is getting a bit repetitive....

HELLO...USBC are you there?

Let me just say this, if this was bowled in league opposed, then whoever it is that shot it, congratulations.  I dont care if it's a wall of china, you still need to knock them all done.

I'm not saying that you have to knock 10 down 36 times...but there had never been a 900 in 100+ years until about 1999...and now we have 17?

Where is the line?  At what point does perfection just not mean anything?

Wjhy is it, when someone rolls a high series, everyone gets upset! It could be from better coaching, better equipment, or just being a better bowling shape, or all three combined! And i agree, YOU STILL HAVE TO ROLL, ALL THREE!

The pace is picking up....and will pick up more!

Instead of one every 1 1/2 years now we are starting to see more like 3 a year!

There should be more!  Fewer and fewer people will stop themselves in the future.  Forget looking "back". Look forward!    Progress....is ahead.

Luckylefty
PS Russell unfortunately your statement would be akin one stating soon after the 4 minute mile was broken by Roger Bannister in 1954...."Now everyone is doing it"  ie stating that there have been none in the past in 1954 and all of a sudden there were many .....  .

You're right...but there is such a thing as integrity.  900 is perfection, a sub 4 minute mile is not.  The clock can always be beat.  Bowling is in steady decline, yet scores keep getting higher...so don't try the "better coaching...better shape" crap.

Oh and I hate it when people play sour grapes as well...but the guy that shot the set isn't the one posting this.

Could not agree more. Great bowling, absolutely! Perfection...unfortunately, we could debate all day about that. All "honor" scores bowled should now come with an asterisk.

I said this years ago here and to a man, everyone took shots at me proclaiming it cant get easier, technology has reached it limits and records are meant to be broken.

Without the assurance that records are fairly achieved they mean nothing. How does when Allie Brandt shot 886 in 1939 on games of 297, 289, 300 using a two holed mirerallite (harder than rubber) ball (thumb and middle finger, or when the Budwiesers shot 3858 in 1959 using rubber balls ( and the team consisted of certianly the 5 of the top 10 best bowlers in the world at that time) and both of these scores were shot with solid pins (not doubled voided and lighter pins of today)compare to the scores of today? Does anyone believe that those who are bowling scores higher even compare to the skill required in those days?

I have had my share of 300's. There is no disrespect intended to those who shoot these scores today. If I shot one of them, I too would be happy. But each time one is shot, it is a direct slap in the face to those who did it under much more difficult and trying requirements for skills. This is why integrity matters. Sure, all records are meant to be broke, but only fairly.

I was just curious if any of these have been bowled on a sport compliant shot? If not, then I could care less what some one shoots on a house shot.

No such thing as a wall either. Oil was inconsistantly applied to lanes by whatever means they had usually a bug sprayer followed by a specialized mop.

Tougher? Heck, yeah!

Easy lane conditions have always been part of the game. With the equipment available pre urethane, to be able to exploit the conditions took something very special, great ball roll, great speed control, incredible accuracy, or many times a combination of the three. Once you "found the pocket", then you had to manuever things to consistantly carry.

Remember when 1 board moves, or even half board moves made a difference? Even little changes in hand position? Maybe even an extra piece of tape to tighten up the thumb hole.

Big scores caused excitement, because they were rare. Now they are a dime a dozen.

Congrats to the bowlers who are shooting 900's, still an incredible feat, just not nearly as exciting as it SHOULD be.
