frame scoring sheets
« on: May 19, 2005, 12:09:18 AM »
Does anybody track their games frame-by-frame?  What do you use as a scoring sheet?

I used to just draw up some boxes on the back of some paper when I went to the lanes, then I made a scoring sheet in either word or excel - had about 6 rows.  Problem is the computer that was on crashed and I used all the copies I printed.  I tried to make another one, but I can't remember exactly how I did it.  I'm trying to get one with the little boxes, just need everything to be big enough to scribble scores with my wrist support on.

I searched the net, but I can't find anything.  Anybody have something they can share?  I can't believe there isn't something out there.

I just use a standard notebook, and keep track of first and second shots in a free-form manner.

Same thing here - let's you keep track of not only which spares you missed, but how (left/right/chop).  You can also make notes on things like whether or not you executed well to get to the pocket on a specific shot or if you performed an "area check" to get to the pocket.

Thanks everybody!  I'm sure I can make one of those work!  I guess I wasn't searching good enough - last time I searched for hours and couldn't find anything even close to a full scoring sheet!

I ripped out one of the pages, and take it to a copying machine as needed. I have a 3 ring binder and punch with me and I made a little score book to do all of this with. It really helps you keep up with your game as you see what you struggled with on that day. I also have another sheet made up that has basic information on it for that day (name of center, weather that day, temperature, open ended center, if its colder on one end of the house than the other, etc.)

I bought a book from the pro shop (for about $8) and ripped out a page.  Took it to work and played around with the copy machine to get it enlarged just right, put 3 on a page and made a bunch of copies.  Took them home and put them in my bag and used them all up.  Can't find the book or the page I ripped out.  I have Gone Bowlin' and can print out a single game, but my neighbor borrowed my printer during tax season (doing tax returns on the side) and never brought it back.

Haven't gotten good enough to track all the stuff like feet position, target arrows, weather, wind conditions, shirt and pants worn, etc  Just track my frame results and put it in Gone Bowlin' when I get home - like to have at least 6 on a page (3 on each half) - like to save paper, since I just throw it away after I enter the scores, plus I try to practice at least 6 games.

Yeah, I read that in a couple of books.  That is a really good way to analyze your game and track your progress.  I wear a glove and it makes it difficult to write.  Not such a big deal in leagues when you have time to take it off and write down the info, but not good for practice.  I try to remember those things, but find that I usually forget them when it comes time to write them down.

Tried to regular paper thing, but I tend to write too big and slanted and then can't keep track of the frames and stuff. I need the format to keep me neat (I like to color inside the lines)

Thanks again for all the links - I should've just asked here before I went through all the trouble last time!

I made one, you can find it here:
http://www.uobux.com/will/ScoringSheet.xls

You'll have to go into page setup (File>Page Setup) to change the margins (Margins Tab) so that it will print out properly since it's oversized.

My margins are set to:
Top: 0
Header: .25
Left: .25
Right: .25
Bottom: 0
Footer: .25

I also center it on the page when I print it by checking the boxes "Center on page" (Horizontally) and (Vertically)

enjoy!
Sunny
P.S. I use Excel 2003 but this should work in earlier versions.

Found a copy of the simple sheet I was using - I guess that's why they say its good to backup your data!

The one posted on the other thread (and link provided by Duke) is much more detailed.  This is just a simple sheet with 10 frames, and 6 games on the sheet.  Good for just tracking scores, not much space for notes or anything detailed.

Here it is in case somebody finds in useful - http://www.dipspit.com/qstick777/bowlscore-sheet.pdf

QStick777, you are not alone charting every shot on the lanes.  I keep a running sheet every night when I'm bowling.....I record the pinfall ball by ball, and I note the pins left standing above the frame.  I find that this gives me trends on the scoring conditions on a particular lane, so I can make some minor adjustments if I start seeing a lot of 10-pins or 4-pins on a particular lane.  It only takes a few seconds to record the information which would otherwise be lost at the end of the game.  And, this gives me a quick reference as to how many strikes, 10-pins, or whatever happened during the 3 game set.

As for a sheet, I take a piece of printer paper and fold it into 1/8ths....then I record 2 series on the horizontal portion of 1/8th of a sheet, and a 3rd set on the vertical section.  When I get through, I have 24 sets on each side of the sheet of paper, or a total of 48 sets on 1 piece of paper.  I also find that keeping track of the game shot by shot keeps me more focused on what I'm doing on the lanes....and if I need to make an adjustment, all I need to do is to refer back to the past few frames on a particular lane to get my answer.
