Wow, what a revelation!
« on: February 13, 2006, 06:08:43 AM »
You know when something just finally clicks?  Well, thanks to Ballreviews and some of the great posts here, I finally understand one of the key problems with my game.  I'm way too speed dominant.  Coaches have tried to get me to throw it slower, but I never really understood it until today.  I think I finally "bought in," and I intend to go hit the lanes during my lunch break tomorrow and put it to work.    I love it when a plan comes together!

Hey Splendor what have I told you about watching those re-runs of the A-Team?!?!

I would have got away with it if it was not for those pesky kids (Behind my lane) and those blasted 10 pins.

Just having a laugh.

I hope you manage to master the art of differing ball speeds.I would say its one of the most important skills a bowler can have, you would be surprised how many bowlers neglect it in favour of just trying to switch to a different ball.

Well you know what kids are like, think they know it all coz they can put 3 times as many revs on the ball as you.But as I say why bother? Its not as if the revs go towards my score!

I agree. Knowing how to maintain ball speed for the conditions can be a huge advantage for a bowler wheather the shot be dessert like or flooded.

I actaully bowl with the kids every weekend as a part of my coaching. I dont ask them to model themselves after me but to just mearly see what im trying to show them. A better understanding. I have had a few kids tell me that more revs = better pin carry. I dissagreed with them and said that its not the amount of revs on the ball that gets the pins to scatter, its how the ball enters the pocket, threw my next shot and got lucky with a beautiful hit which just happened to have a screaming messenger take out the 9 pin. I then told em, its not a matter of revs, rev it up all you want, but hitting the pocket with 5-6 degrees of angle will yeild the best carry 1 needs. But this is off topic.

Actually I gotta remove that, im nowhere near what I thought. I coach 4 year olds with more revs then I have! Seriously, im probably 175-200ish for revs. Even if I no thumb it (which I can) I still dont have more then 250. When I was in youth bowling, I had alot more hand in the ball then I do now and i cant seem to regain those revs I lost, dont really need em either.

I managed to slow down my swing considerably in leagues last night, and I can tell it will make a huge difference, I was getting a much better reaction out of ALL my equipment.  I didn't have the scores to show for it, due to some inconsistency hitting my mark, but I felt really good about how I was throwing the ball.  I crouched down a little at address, kept the ball low, and cut my pushaway in half.  It made all the difference and I actually managed to get my Smokin' to move on a regular basis, which beforehand was the biggest culprit of being thrown through the breakpoint.  I can't wait to get back out there!

Hit your mark, relax and let the quipment work for you. Trust in the balls - they are designed to hook for you, you just have to LET them do it on the lane.
Good luck!
