THS 3rd Game Scoring

Hi –

Who I am - I am right handed.  Versatile in speed and release changes!  But, do not have the hand of god shot!  I am a Tweener and semi-roller.  Also, I coach bowling at the high school level.  I do understand the technical part of the game.  Bowl in 4 leagues, 3 synthetic and 1 wood.  I am bowling ball rich.  My arsenal includes a lot of the quality pieces on the market.  Also, I am 67, but physically fit!

Looking for a little help!  The situation is that I have a problem with the 3rd game in typical synthetic lane league play, fresh pattern.  During practice I do my lane pattern analysis and usually find the shot for the start of the night.  I match up ball, release, speed,  lane condition and score reasonably well for game 1 and 2, averaging 208 and 207 for game 1 and 2.  Game 3 comes along and “Boom!”  The late transition just knocks me off.  I fall down to a 195 average.  So I have lots of ball choice pieces but I just do not seem to match up well for the third game.  I am a really good spare shooter.

Any help would be appreciated!

Regards –

Denny

a lot depends on the reason. Is it a carrydown problem, or a drying heads problem?

I think it is carrydown!  I can loft the shot and /or move left but in either case have a difficult time with the ball making the turn.  If I go straight up with a weaker hand, all sorts of back row pins want to stand up!  So I am shooting 190's with lots of spares.  Denny

on synthetics this is what I do the last game..

game one and game two I can usually get away with slight bumps left with my feet and to the same break point with the ball..
Third game I do one of 2 things...

either make a big jump left and cut my speed and increase my hand and rotation.. the three changes are important. If I don't cut my speed and increase my hand the ball won't turn the corner like you described..
the amount of jump left depends on what I need to do to get the ball to the same breakpoint I have been using.

2nd choice is to move back right... If I have moved left 3 or 4 boards through games 1 and 2.. the third game I am usually back to where I started the first game or maybe a board to the right.. with a slight increase in speed to get through the heads if they are drier.. similar hand though..this makes up for the decrease in backend from the carrydown..

of course this will depend on the oil in the heads for sure

about me .. I tend to play inside and in the oil on a THS. I don't bump off the dry.. usually 12 or 13 to the 10 board at my breakpoint.. If you usually play up 5 and in the dry then these moves may not work for you.

let me know if this helps
