Almost had my first clean night!
« on: January 24, 2016, 11:49:36 AM »
My first two games were clean. I started getting kinda nervous at the start of the third games because I have never had the first two games clean. I have had two clean games before, but never the first two. I made it up to the seventh frame... And 7-10 split! Luckily the 10 fell late! Redemption! Spare or strike in the 8th frame keeping the game clean. I get up to throw the ninth frame and though my ball was probably burning up so I bumped my feet left hoping to get into some more oil. That did the trick! Put me right in the carry down and I missed the head pin altogether. Left the 1 2 4 6 10, which I failed to convert. 29/30 though. Best spare night yet!

Nice job!!  Clean sets are great.  It's difficult to have a bad scoring night when you're clean.  This past month I have had two clean sets, but before that it may have been six months...  Always leave some crazy split(s) somewhere.

Anyways, keep after it because it's sure to happen for you when you focus on filling frames one at a time.  It's all about staying in the moment.  Throw one good shot...  then one good shot...  and so on.  When you do that the score takes care of itself.

Thanks for the encouragement! I'm right handed, but I have always fought my left side spares. I get into my own head and miss my mark. I had a friend give me a system for the left side, and that has helped a lot. I trust that I am lined up correctly now, so the only issue is dummy #1 missing his mark. My right side spares I throw at by feel. I can kill the ball pretty well for a 10 pin. I just suck at making left side buckets. Any tips?

I try to have my feet and hips going the same direction as I'm throwing the ball.  I pivot ever so slightly so my feet are pointing at the intended line.  Then I just walk a straight line to where I slide and throw it straight at the 4 and 7 pins. By using a straight ball it doesn't matter whether the lanes are wet, dry, or in between.

It's a system a very good bowler talk me years ago and it hasn't failed me.  The key is knowing where I want to slide.  Fourth arrow is my target for either pin.  If I miss it's because I slid at a different place than intended, or just missed fourth arrow.  At least I'm not relying on any "reaction" from the ball.  Good luck.

Keep up the hard work OP.  Nothing wrong with a clean set.  Managing your game is essential and clean sets are evidence of staying under control.  When you run into difficult conditions, leaving makeable spares and actually making them goes miles!

I always have (and recommend) plastic at all spare attempts that do not contain a sleeper.  Going straight is simple, eliminates the condition, and you just have to reach towards your target.  Namely with single pins, I line up with the 4th arrow and reach thru it into the pin.  No matter what I run into, this is always the same and I'm become very comfortable with it.  I honestly couldn't imagine shooting left side variations by hooking the lane on flat patterns in transition.
