a consistent release
« on: August 22, 2009, 10:20:39 AM »
i have a loose armswing, hand to the inside part of the ball, slight cupping of the elbow when the ball comes down to about shoulder hight and i then push the ball from the cupping towards my target with a huge wrist snap and i am very nice to it at the bottom.
however i still have a fairly inconsistent rev rate. what can i do to find out how i can smooth out this issue?

Sounds like the elbow is the issue.  You don't "cup" your elbow. When you do so, this introduces excess muscle to the swing.  You also don't "push" th ball on the downswing.  Let gravity bring the ball down, without pulling it down with the shoulder.

All in all, doesn't sound like you have a loose armswing.  But a video would specify.

"Huge wrist snap" and "nice to it at the bottom" is hard to picture.  They are generally exact opposites, either you snap the hell out of it or you're smooth or somewhere in between, not both.

Once again, like the carry issues thread, a video would help a lot in fixing these problems.

To answer your question, when I get inconsistent in my release it means a) I'm trying too hard to get revs or b)my approach is off, and I have to adjust at the line to keep decent timing.  To fix this I usually try to slow down my approach, and move right a few boards so I don't have to rev the hell out of it to get it back to the pocket.

How is it possible to as you say "have a huge wrist snap and I am very nice to it at the bottom"

That makes absolutely no sense!! Do you post for the sake of posting, or are you just kinda slow?

slight cupping of the elbow

This does NOT address the wrist snap issue but here is a bowler that has a bent elbow style which I assume chipmunk is talking about.
