wrist pain
« on: April 01, 2011, 04:56:04 AM »
Hello All,

Recently (since Monday) I have been having a shooting pain in my wrist. The pain is under my thumb going down the inside of my arm.

It really only bothers me when I grip things (staple remover, stack of papers, etc).

It did not really bother much when I bowled Monday but it still hurt (shot 300 781 too )

Any recommendations?

Sounds a lot like tendonitis, but then I'm not a doctor, which is the person you should be asking ...

Bowling will make it worse.

Often, the cause of wrist or joint pain is the result of a Span or Pitch adjustment that you have been putting off or ignoring till it got so bad that it affects life away from Bowling, first thngs first, go to your local pro shop, check your span from middle finger to thumb and ring finger to thumb, then look for a beveling issue, there may be a nerve being pressured, take a look at your Pitches, as you get older, your hand strength decreases so a pitch adjustment may need to be done. After eliminating your bowling as a cause, then go see your Doctor and see if something you did at work or home caused a condition

I just had my span shortened over the summer. Changed my pitches to make my fingers -.25" with lifts to make it go back to even. I was having pain in my ring finger and that feels so much better now,

I was bowling Sunday and was playing a certain way that I normally don;t because the shot was really obscure.

I am thinking this pain is just temporary because of the way I had to play last Sunday.

The human body is designed to do certain things in a certain way. Each person is an individual, and each person has their own flexibility levels, but the basic constraints remain.

If you had to perform an action that either fell out of the ordinary, or fell out of your personal ability to stretch those parameters with flexibility, you have over strained something and, perhaps, done more damage that good.

My suggestion is, see a doctor. Pain is your bodies way of telling you something is amiss.
