A Diesel Comparison
« on: July 02, 2007, 04:08:02 AM »
Hey everyone, I'm currently throwing my friend's Diesel, and while it is a nice ball, once the lanes break down it gives me too much hook - although I do like everything else about it.  I'm a med rev stroker, I assume, and am getting ready to purchase a new ball - what ball is similar to the Diesel, but with a tad more control?  I like the Hawg Wild, and maybe the Inertia, but was just curious - thank you everybody!

Which Diesel do you have? If it's red brick/black then it's particle; green/black is particle pearl; then you have reactive pearl, Big Block, and Big Rig. In any account, minus the reactive pearl, the ball is meant to roll early and hook and not for length and snapping on the backend.

You need a ball to compliment it. In newer stuff, I'd suggest a Cherry Vibe.

Whoops, sorry about that guys - it's the black and green, therefore particle pearl - I probably play about 20 to 8, so in the middle to the comfortable edge - and like how the ball reacts - but my folks are buying a new ball, just want to get some ideas.  Sorry about the lack of specification in my previous post!

Not problem. That's a great ball! It has a low radius of gyration (RD) which means it heavier at the core and starts rolling sooner, creating a stronger arc. The higher differential makes the ball have a wide flare so more clean surface contacts the lane which strengths its hook. Oil allows the ball to get down the lane.

Once you have less head oil, you'll have too much friction and the ball will hook at your feet.

You need a ball with a weaker cover at least. The balls you listed wouldn't be good options. The Hawg Wild is a stronger reactive and I know the Inertia is stronger, too.

Look at the Cherry Vibe, Ebonite's blue or black Ice, Brunswick's BVP line and others in a lower price category. Many of them are great performers for lighter conditions.

You are correct...Hawg Wild is later!
