a few bowling questions
« on: February 13, 2011, 04:57:33 AM »
i have a orig cell and i like it alot..i have a virtural gravity, mutant cell and invision and they dont do anything for me. all are drilled the same..im a stroker and the balls dont do anything on the backend. i get no hook at all. i polished my mutant cell and it did nothing i think my balls are drilled 4x4...what ball should i get that will get me alot of backend? or what should i look for in choosing a ball? i want to be able to roll it then have a good hook right to thr pocked on the backend and is there a better pattern to get my balls drilled? is the 4x4 for different a style of bowler?  i play on med to oily lane conditions my ball speed is around 13 mph so i would guess thats about med i use 15 lb balls....thanks for the help

All of those balls mentioned have one thing in common, in that they are solid reactives. With your speed I would recommend a pearl reactive, which will respond faster to friction and give you a more pronounced late reaction.

Have you tried some polish on any of the solids?

The very nature of a solid coverstock is that it will read the lane earlier and smooth, compared to the pearl reactives that go longer and turn later. Even a hybrid cover would be a step in the right direction. Let me know if you'd like specific recommendations via PM.

It would also be helpful to know more about your playing style, PAP, axis tilt, and the like.

My assumption is that ALL the balls you have/use are just too strong for the condition at hand, burning and rolling early (due to the strong layout), or that your release has a flaw. Just because the ball does not move it does not mean that there was oil out there, carrydown or something tough. From my experience, it is rather the lack of it.

A strong high end ball does not mean a big hook or tons of back end, and I wonder why you do not have something more "harmless" in your arsenal? You need a proper package of ball, surface, setup and lane condition - which fits your style and reaction needs - not only a high end ball. IMHO, try out a polished pearl mid range piece, or consult a coach. I am sure that it is not only the balls' "fault".
