Title: A goal 15 years in the making
Post by: Scolai on January 28, 2004, 04:57:16 AM
Finally was realized today:

My PBA Card arrived in the mail today and I am now officially a member of the Professional Bowlers Association.  I wanted this to happen from the time I seriously started bowling in 1988.

I just wanted to share.  Good night.

TY all for the kind replies.  I knew my Ballreviews family would appreciate the commitment it takes to earn the Card.

Bones, besides bowling in the regional events that come close enough to home for me to hit, I would like to give lessons, promote bowling, or just be an advocate for the sport we all love and enjoy.  I'd also like to see my school system pioneer a high school bowling program that students from around North Carolina could see as a model and duplicate in their systems.  The North Carolina High School Bowling Association awaits its charter members.

Besides that, I just want to be able to say, "I'm a professional bowler."

Well, 3 words and a contraction, but....

Ah, too bad we don't have a high school team around here, but nobody's into bowling.  We'd have like 3 people on the team...  But if I said those 3 words/contraction, I would be laughed at non stop...people here just don't take it seriously...

Awesome!!! Congratulations. I remember the feeling the day I got mine.
It was a dream that I didn't even know I had until I started chasing it.

Now - if only there was a PWBA left...

Mumzie - I have a close bowling friend who is eligible to aply for her card; the problem being, of course, that the PWBA is not accepting applications at this time.  She and I practice together usually once a week with her husband as coach.  They are my cheerleaders whenever I go to a regional tournament.  I am eager for her to get her card also.

As for King and G-Money17, I'm proud, but I also realize that I am among the best bowlers in the world which humbles me quite a bit.  Besides, you probably wouldn't want to be around someone who gets the big head because they have achieved a degree of success.

I'm here to help, I'm here to learn, and I'm here to enjoy the company.  That's about it.

Thanks again, all, for your kind words.

Pin-nut,  congrats.  I know how you feel about getting you card.  It's been almost 3 years since I got mine.  I wanted to get it when I was younger (much younger), but I knew that I didn't have the mental disciple at the time.  Then as time went on, family and career took me away from bowling and I didn't bowl at all for about 14 years.  When I started back again in 1998, one of my goals was to join the PBA.  Shortly after I turned 50, I got my card.  Now, if the PBA would only do something for the Senior Tour.

Amen to that.  I turn 50 in May, was looking forward to kicking Mark Roth's arse.  Yeah, right...  Would have been fun to dream about it, though.

The way the PBA is treating the Seniors right now, I don't think I'd even bother trying to get a card.  I think they're waiting for the old war horses to give up and retire, then when WRW and Voss turn 49, they'll start building it up as a showcase for them.

That's around 2008, I believe.
