integrity of the game
« on: July 09, 2007, 06:15:14 AM »
Ok, I have been having this discussion with some of the guys I bowl with. With all the hoopla about the USBC trying to get the integrity of the game back by controlling the surface of the balls, lower scores, letting the good bowlers show through and the "house bowlers" slide in average. I was thinking why don't they make a sort of standard house shot with no wall? I don't think they should totally oil from gutter to gutter, but something that if you slide out then you will need some luck to strike. I see so many people playing the outside just bouncing the ball off the dry and letting it walk into the pocket, thinking they could "beat the pro's" Then when we get a tuffer shot they struggle and blame it on everything under the sun. except that they don't throw a "good ball."

By the way, I too would have a lower average as I tend to leak right and get help from the wall. I however am trying to work on that to get better and wouldn't mind losing a few pins to force myself to get better. What do you guys think of something like this or am I just bitter? lol

From a bowlers stand point that sounds great. But from a Propritors/Managers stand point its not very good. In order to get bowlers into the center the shot has to be easy. If they go into a house that has a hard shot down they wont continue to bowl there. They want to average 220+ and shoot honors scores. But then the same guys go and bowl in a sport league and look foolish becase they use the lanes more that natural ability. I, for one, would love to bowl on tougher conditions, its better for the bowlers who can bowl on tougher shots because they will shine in there league and might not get demolished in a league because of handicap. But then, the bowlers will go to an easier house thus that particular center will be loosing business, and thats the last thing they want. All in all, for the competive bowlers it sounds great, but from a business stand point, it sucks. In comes the sport leagues!!

See we don't have a sport shot at our house. We had the sanctioned leagues and the non sanctioned leagues. With a crap shot for the non, the jamokes in the non are caring 200+ and working there way into our tuffer leagues, b*tching about the "unfair shot" and getting the shot changed. So some of us that liked the harder shot voiced our own opinion and they told us that we are good and should learn to bowl on a dry shot so the "unskilled" can have fun too! that would allow all of us to score big. I understand the point of learning to bowl on a dry shot, and I'm really working on it, but that just don't sound right to me
