For me It has to be my VBP Violet Gargoyle. It's constantly my go to ball/benchmark ball and it gives me the most consistant read and feel on a variety of different patterns. I have had success with it playing just about anywhere on the lane (up the ditch between 3-5 to a tight deep 25-27 board drift to just right of pocket, as well as swinging from everywhere on a wall).
You are going to get many different responses based on the different characteristics of each persons game. The benchmark ball for a speed dominant stroker probably isn't going to be the same ball for a slow ball speed/rev dominant tweener/cranker. I like balls with an RG around 2.54-.56 and a differential around .038-.042 and I've thrown 3 different balls over time from different companies with similar drills and they all fit the characteristics of what I like in their reaction/versatility (had to change the cover slightly though).
So If I was to get a replacement for my gargoyle, right now it would probably be:
Rotogrip Illusion
Lanemasters Terminator Rebellion
AMF Nighthawk
Banger Whole Pounder Solid
Take what you like and on your next ball (if you want a similar reaction), try and get A) the RG/Diff. close to the same and B) the Cover close to the same. The same applies when you are using a ball with a strong mass bias. (These balls I like don't have a strong MB though)
