This is to go along with Joe Falco's post about winter lineage fees.

Comparison.....you bowl in a 4 person team league.  Cost in my area around $9.50 to $10 for 3 games includes house bookeeping and average computation.  Therefore, league secretary fee reflects house doing most of the work.  Time about 2:30 mins.

Golf in a 9 hole league.  Many after work leagues are set up as 9 hole leagues.  Play in a 4 some.  Cost $14 - $16 greens fees in my area walking does not include cart cost. Time about 2:15 mins. allowing 15 mins. per hole.

So, basically golf is more expensive but I never hear golfers whine about greens fees at least in my area.  We pay the freight but I hear bowlers continually complain about lineage.

Why is that?

What people seem to forget is that in Golf, we can join a club and pay a yearly fee which allows you to play any day with no additional charge. This is not true in Bowling. In my area, I can golf every day 7 months per year for about $1200. granted this is not Pebble Beach but for a 10 handicapper, this is OK. I bowl 5 days a week for 8 months and it cost me over $2000. Golf is more expensive for the occasional golfer who pays greens fees but for addicts, bowling is more expensive because in my area anyway, there are no  bowling centers that have a yearly fee.
