new pins....maybe plastic?
« on: October 11, 2004, 02:34:25 PM »
My local house(amf house) recently(today) replaced all their pins...i was in the first league to bowl them. Man are they louder and kinda sound like the twister pins that were at reno this year(as far as i can remember since i bowled in feb.)

not having bowled while knowing that the pins were new i have a question to ask.....

Do brand new pins sound significantly louder or do we have the dreaded "light hits good/buried pocket hits = bad(4-9s)" plastic pins?

just wondering....

Brand new pins are way louder. They have a nice "cruch" to them when hit. They're also much more difficult to knock over as the bottoms are still very flat.

Hope you're not bowling with Twisters, Twisters are garbage. You can probably just ask the counter what type of pins are in the racks.

Does AMF make the Twister pins?

I could be wrong, but I thought the Twisters were made in Germany.

As an aside, has anyone bowled on Twisters anywhere other than at an ABC tournament?

IT depends on what brand of pin they are using.  The easiest way to tell the manufactures of bowling pins is by looking at the logos and the neck markings.  BRunswick Pins Tradiotally have a Red or flourecent ornace crown around the neck and a Blue or orange B on the belly.  Amf pins have red stripes on the neck and the aflite 2 line has a Red Triangle that says AMF in the middle and then on top of the triangel it says AMFliteII.  Vulcan Pins have a Vshaped logog on the front of them.  Amf also makes the AMFlite Pinnacle pins and those have a pyramid on the fron for the logo and they also have a black base on the bottom and the abc wibc approval logo is in black on the back side of the pin.  Twister pins which are all synthetic pins have a grey staggered rings around the nec and say twister on the belly. Hope this helps.

I've had them in a couple of tournaments and our local six-lane center put them in a few years ago.

Yes, we used them in our state tourney last year as well.  It was my first experience with them.  I bowled pretty well, mostly by keeping the ball light into the pocket.  The guys who buried the ball had tons of carry issues.

Some Brunswick pins have the two red stripes around the neck instead of the crown.

"...AMF plastic coated, wooden pins, they'll break in in about a month..."
...and last longer and score better than most any other pin.
AMF makes probably the best pin on the market, used by the large majority of centers worldwide.

Check out the forums on www.bowltech.com and you'll find AMF pins have many fans.
