a non-scientific test/survey
« on: January 26, 2005, 03:52:50 AM »
Please reply that you either know or do not know what is meant by the term "flat-spot" as it applies to bowling.

I'm trying to test out a notion I have.  No grades will be given, nor any commentary.

As the arc of the armswing goes forward, and the bowler is moving forward, there is a point where the swing appears "flat".
This is what my coach calls the flat spot.
And it is desirable, at least as he tells it.

Mabye his notion is that even among the elitest of knowledgable bowlers (here), there might be an incredibly important term that not even many of them know about.

Sing along

“Well I like to know where you got the ‘notion’”

“Well I like to know where you got the ‘notion’”

“Rock the boat, don’t rock the boat baby”

“Rock the boat, don’t turn the boat over”

Well enough of that…. You should have seen me dancing to the tune.

The longer the flat spot in the swing, at the release point,
the better the chance the bowler has to impart revolutions.
The swing flat spot, along with knee bend and proper slide,
will give a bowler more time to unconsciously adjsut for timing errors.
IMHO.
