Would you be mad if....

So I bought a Bounty Hunter Pearl on here NIB and took it to the shop I used to work at to get it drilled. So it has a shorter pin and I wanted to keep around a 5" pin to axis and I tell him to either drill the whole pin out or put the pin above the ring but don't hit the pin. So he carelessly drills it and hits takes a decent sized sliver out the pin and doesn't drill a big enough bridge so the fingers run together a lot. I look at the ball once he is done and the first thing  I say is this thing is gonna crack. He says "I doubt it will crack".

So within a week the bridge cracks and now the pin is all cracked. I am pretty upset and I am considering going to a different shop from now on. Just wondering how you all would feel if this happened to you??

have him plug and redrill the fingers and id ask for my money back for drilling fee if he is any type of reputable ball driller he should make it right now the problem is if i had did that with one u bought off my shop i would replace the ball and make a deal with you to keep you happy cause thats what business were in making the customer happy and giving them a ball that fits and works the way they want

I'd be upset.  Not so much because the ball cracked, but because he didn't drill the ball I told him to.  It would be one thing if you just told him "Drill the ball to do X".  But you didn't, you said, "Lay it out like this" and he didn't do it.  

I would get him to fix it for free.  If he does, and this is his first mistake with you, I would continue to use the shop.  If he refuses, or he has made similar mistakes in the past, I would find someone else to drill my stuff.

Yes you should be upset...Our shop would not drill into the pin or even drill out the whole pin...

On one occasion recently, we ran into a situation like this... Eric from Global was actually in our shop at the time... He suggested to drill the entire pin out...  And said never drill into part of the pin... Drill the whole pin out,  and don''t drill into just part of the pin.

We decided not to drill the pin out.... And ordered the customer a different ball with a more usable pin....

Drilling the entire pin out does not create any problems.  All the pin is is filler material for the hole left from where the core sits on the locator pin in the mold when the ball is poured.  As such, it also marks the top of the core.  If anything, drilling it out actually strengthens the remaining coverstock by removing a weak area.  --  JohnP

Looks like a NEW REPLACEMENT BALL to me. Plugged just voided the warranty!!

Actually drilling within 1" of the pin, or of course partially drilling out the pin, already voids the warranty.  Normally if small cracks occur around the fingers, you would normally just plug the area and go again.  However, if a major crack develops and the ball would need to be replaced, it would be the pro shop's responsibility since they drilled the ball that way without the customer's consent.
