A question to all bowlers---Part II
« on: March 01, 2010, 11:03:01 AM »
Ok---I got several responses. So here is what he did.....
He was caught altering his bowling scores to improve them.
After talking with him after this happened,he was despondent to the point of talking about not caring about anything again--that he was worthless---not worth knowing or being around. He felt useless as a parent. Several of us did keep him from doing anything dumb, and got a priest we all know to talk to him.
So far, things are getting better for him,but he's not out of the woods yet. He's told me he has no desire to ever bowl again....

in life in general not that big of an offense but it sounds like your freind needs to take some time off of bowling and work on his life. IMO.

Forgive me if I don't quite understand.  In your other post you said "Among the stressors was a car accident, attempted suicide of one of his parents, personal checking account hacked into, and others."

So his answer to all of this was to alter his scores to make them better?

How does one go about doing that and not getting caught?

And how does artificially increasing your bowling average make everything "better"?

Accidents, parents trying to commit suicide, financial trouble and possible identity theft - last thing I care about is my bowling average!

In my opinion, and I am a very forgiving and faithful individual, I believe you forgive and forget.  This is not going to change anyones life to extent of shortening it or anything like that.  It really takes a lot for me to not forgive someone.  There are only a few things in life, which is too short anyway, that are truly not unforgivable.

I hope everything works out for your friend, no one is perfect no matter how much we all think that we can try to be.

Don't let him near the score sheets, machines ect. True he needs to worry about other things besides bowling.

"altering his bowling scores to improve them" will definitely make all those things better!

I'm sure he's a nice guy and all, but that's just stupid.  I hope you got him some good counseling.

i would not worry about anything in his bowling.  I would be worried to death that he needs some bigtime help from a professional.  You made a good start with the Priest.  I would encourage him to also get some help from someone who can prescribe some temporary medicine to help him get through this and get things back on track. Good luck to you and your friend.

Is your friend's initials "RM"?  If so, you should kick is *** twice, maybe tree times, chop off his thumb, middle, and ring finger on his bowling hand, and see if you can't get him deported from the country.  That's the only right thing to do here.

Yeah, I couldn't help myself!

Seriously though, this dude has some issues that are much worse than manipulating bowling scores. Hopefully your intervention will get him the help he needs.

As to forgiving him, sure.  He's messed up in the head, so I'd give him a pass on something that's this minimal in the big picture.  I'd keep an eye on him when I was bowling with him though, but as long as he doesn't try to keep doing it I'd let it go.

Yeah, well I agree.  Forgivable, yes.  But your friend needs some help, or needs something good to happen in his life to change the momentum of bad....

I am actually thinking that changing the scores was his cry for help.

And thank goodness it worked.
