Thats the second release.  The original was much softer and if I remember correctly called the Shur-D.

Can anyone confirm that I got the name right ?

By the seriel number it's a 1976 ball which was the harder one. I had both and it's a huge difference in reaction. The original i had durometered in the low 40's qhere as the second generation were 75-76 to meet the new(at the time) hardness rules

I have two of the older ones. The original one that my dad bought right after they came out was so soft that it came apart in the 90's just sitting in the closet. The newer one looks like an old bleeder yellow dot with very little pearl look to it and is harder than the original but softer than the yellow dot. I can put a nail print in it easily and if you press really hard and for a good 30 seconds it will leave a finger imprint. My uncle has one like in the picture and it is much harder more like a newer yellow dot.

There's two 15lbers on ebay. One that is a NIB 1976 version and a used 1974 soft version. Both going for big money.

The original version is not legal for use in USBC sanctioned competition because it does not even come close to meeting the hardness spec.  So i guess it would  be a collector's item only.  --  JohnP
