Not with todays bowlers....

Errorless Games, consecutive †

I think todays technology would prohibit that record from being touched.

I think that I have managed to have a clean SET, but 65 GAMES?! We're talking 780+ frames here (since he carried that into the 66th game). I would be happy to just go that long without a split none the less clean.

i agree, i think it would mean clean games, i think if i concentrated during league, i could do it. But i usually have to much other stuff going on. my best is 18

If I could go even 18 games clean simply by concentrating, I would.  "if I concentrated" doesn't work because the obvious question is "why aren't you?"  I'd work like heck to get people to help me out if I were going for that kind of record.  It'd be worth giving up the comraderie, beer, and socialization for a few weeks to set that record.

It's not just a case of picking up all your single pin spares.  Not even a case of picking up all your buckets or 3-10s.  It's splits that'll kill you.  Even the best pros in the world leave 8-10s, pocket 7-10s, or high 4-9s from time to time.    Even concentrating, it's well-nigh impossible to control those things (well, maybe the 4-9s if you're really paying attention to the transition).  When was the last time you picked up every split you left for four months?

Exactly.  If you threw plastic or urethane to "stay out of trouble", sooner or later you might leave a 5-7 or 8-10 or something.  With resin, a 2-10, blowout 7-10, or 4-9 are pretty common.  I don't care if you leave nothing but 5 pins, most of us could never throw that many clean frames in a row.  Eventually you'll get lazy, drop one, have one stick bad, or just plain throw one bad.  WAY too many people grossly overestimate their spare percentages anyway.  Don't tell me you're over 90% unless you average 220+

If Walter Ray was bowling on regular league conditions he could go 10 consecutive seasons before recording an "error".

I think it depends strongly on what you call an "error".  If an error means a bad shot off the hand, then yeah, you may be right.  I don't expect him to throw a bad shot that misses the head pin or crosses over.  I expect him to be in the pocket all year long.

But if "error" is the same as "open", that's a different story.  Sure, he'll pick up every single pin spare (he's missed one in how long?), but as others have said, going that long without having the bowling gods taking a dump on you is unlikely.  All it takes is one pocket 7-10 to ruin it.

Considering the way bowlers practice spares (which is "not at all"), I don't see this record leaving the books any time soon.

The old maxim, "you strike for show and spare for dough" is lost on today's board-sprayers.

I agree with the lack of spare shooting practice. How many people do you see practice spares when warming up? Most people on the league I bowl on throw a strike ball and step on the foul line to get a full rack for the next person in line if they only throw one ball. I take both balls and will shoot a ten pin with the first ball and try and clear the rack with the second. You should be able to recognize where the ball hits the 1-3 to tell if you would have struck.

My spare percentage is way down this year from last but I am doing it without my thumb after surgery. My percentage is about 75% not counting splits, with splits it is around 60%. I usually am around 75% with splits figured in. How many say they are 90% spare shooters but don't count splits?

I read about this several years back.  By "error" they mean non-split open.  Splits do not count, so I think this record probably has been broken but no one keeps track of this type of stat anymore.

Not to mention 4 in one game...
