A tough week for split shooting
« on: April 10, 2005, 06:13:03 PM »
I leave quite a few splits, and naturally my percentage of picking them up is very low.  I was lucky enough a couple years ago to pick up the big 4, but I was mad at myself for leaving it and turned my back after I chucked the ball at the 6-10.  This week I was struggling as usual, and left a pocket 7-10.  I had never even bounced a pin on this split.  This time I was fortunate enough to get the 10 out of the pit, only to be crushed when it rolled directly in front of the 7, missing it.  Tonight was even worse.  I left a greek church on a 4 bagger.  I managed to slide the 6 into both the 4 and 7, leaving the 9 pin standing.  A few frames later, I left a 2-8-10, which is pretty common for me.  I threw a back-up ball at the 2-8, and slid the 2 in front of the 10.  A friend of mine on my team (terrible bowler) left a 5-8-10, and managed to slide the 8 into the 10, leaving the 5.  I'd never seen the 8-10 covered.  One of these days I'll make one of those impossible splits.

I've seen the 8-10 covered once....the 10-pin bounced off the curtain and flew back forward into the 8.

I've covered the 7-9 (being a lefty) 5 times in my lifetime. Twice I bounced the 9 pin out of the pit into the 7, the other 3 times I slid the 9 pin into the 7 pin.
