Getting off to a smooth start
« on: September 01, 2004, 08:53:56 AM »
While I have calmed down from my youthful days, I still find myself being too aggressive when starting my approach.  By this, I mean that I take off like I am running a race to the line with my ball.  I do want to end my slide slightly ahead of the ball bottoming out, but I end up just yanking the ball down to catch it up to the fast feet.  I suppose I am a little excited about a fresh season against some different competition.

Any thoughts on how to get off to a good first step?  What kind of timing cues do some of you use to get out of the gate the same way?

ksucat --  If you use a four step approach, consider trying five.  The first step is a very short (1 foot or so) "timing step" to get the body in motion, then the ball starts with the second step.  Also, be sure your heel hits before the ball of your foot on the first two steps.  --  JohnP
