« on: September 14, 2004, 10:11:40 AM »
Now im not sure if this has been asked
before so get off me if it has. Im looking
for some different card games some of
you guys and gals play while in league.
My team just plays straight poker with
the current winner picking a wild card.
To be honest its getting boring. Just
looking for something new. Thanks

Cards got boring for us, too much depended on the luck of the draw.

We started skin games instead.

At the start of each game everyone puts $1 into the ashtray.  Each frame is worth $.50.  If 3 people strike, the frame is carried over.  If 2 people strike, each gets 1/2 of the accumulated pot.  If only one person strikes, he gets everything accumulated up to that point.

10th Frame is elimination.  If 2 people strike out in the 10th, they have a sudden death roll off between them at the start of the next game.

Gets everyone rooting for a strike, don't know how many times last year we carried the entire pot over to the next game.

While not a card game, something that we have been doing for a few years is called Pass 5.

For a five person team, each bowler puts $1 in the pot and the $5 is given to the leadoff bowler.  When he/she opens, it is passed to the next person in the lineup.  Last person holding it at the end of the 3rd game keeps it.  If the anchor was holding it in the 10th and opened, it would be passed to the leadoff bowler who gets to keep it.

We play cards like so,
regular poker but if you get a black 7 the entire team puts the cards back on the bottom of the deck, and you start all over...
no matter what frame. You could do this with any card.

You might try hold'em.  It's a favorite of many people.

My 4-man team plays cards but each game is slightly different.
Bowlers get a card for a strike, two cards for a double/string. Max cards = 23 (300 game). Last year we gave a card for 9-spare, and we also turned over your last card if you whiffed a one-pin spare. This year we are back to strikes only so we took away the missed spare penalty, although it's not a bad rule.

Anyway...

First game is straight high, no jokers. Cost is $1.

Second game is lowball with one joker. Cost is $1.

Third game is high and low with two jokers. Cost is $2 (two winning hands)

You weren't unlucky when you left that corner pin, so shut up about it already!!

5 man team
5 card poker
6 hands played.
the 6th hand is a dummy hand. if atleast 3 of the 5 guys mark the dummy hand gets a card.
If the dummy hand wins, the pot rolls over.
The hand is played up and no screwing the dummy hand for personal gain.

The way we play poker on Thursday nights is as follows...

One card for a mark, two cards for a split conversion.  A strike in the first frame makes the card drawn a wild card.  Jokers are wild, so that means there are up to 22 wild cards in a game, though some nights as few as 2.  I've been considering changing the wild card rule though.  That many wild cards gets old fast.
