How walled is your house?
« on: March 04, 2005, 12:16:23 AM »
How walled is your house on a scale of 1-10? Of course a 10 would make it the Great Wall of China, where a 1 would be sport-like hard. I want to make it clear that I mean the house's actual shot, and not a sport pattern that may be laid out for a league.

Ill go...I give my house a 6. Definitely one of the harder houses in the area. It gets a 6 cause it always has something different out a lot. Sometimes a total 10, and then another time its a 3 or lower. Or even worse, it is sometimes spotty, which in my opinion is worse than sport. The night shot is way easier though, but I would not know cause I am still junior and do not get to bowl since it is all adult leagues at that time.

So how walled is your house?

I'd give it about a 9.5.  The only thing that keeps it from being a 10 is the fact that the outsides are SOO dry that some people (myself included) have trouble controling it.  There are people whose averages have gone up as much as 30 pins since last year when I feel the pattern was much fairer.  This season if you don't shoot at least a high 250 game you're not gonna win a dime.

It is illegal and management has no qualms about admitting it.  The problem is that too many bowlers think that this fun blah blah, that it probably won't get changed.

On average about 4/5, with a tournament shot laid down about 1/2 (reverse block...don't stray outside of 10).  Only a handful of 3s are shot during a season and even fewer 8s.

Plank Road Bowl Oconomowoc = 9 when they decide to oil that month.

AMF Waukesha = 10 (unless you get there after open bowl... I think they're still using offense & the carrydown is fearsome).

Alpine Bowl = 3-4 this was last year though.

Now, these are the ratings for the house hack crankers. Myself (a stroker) I usually score better & feel more comfortable on a sport shot. So I would actually give Alpine an 8 in scorability for me, whereas Plank Road is a 3-4 & AMF is a solid 6.

For the four different houses I bowl, I'd say 3, 9, 8, and 7.

My local house is about an 8 from 10.  You normally only have three boards to hit, but they all have an arrow on them.(hahahaha)

House 1 - 12 lanes - 7.5 - not hard to get to the hole, usually. Older synthetics, same type as house 2, just 10-15 years older.

high game - 298  high series - 761
high average - 212 or so

House 2 - 8 lanes - 8.5 - easier to get to the pocket, avg's about 10-15 pins higher for most who bowl both houses. House installed new pinsetters last summer, and just bought a new oiling machine(same type as house 1)

high game - 300(4)  high series - 801 & 800 and a few in the 780-790 range.
high average - 224 or so

Monday nite 8.5/9   and this is if you can play between 15-10 all nite.

But lately they have been putting down more oil.  And when the lanes usta be bone its carry down lol.   But on my league there is one guy who is avg 227 or so, but doesnt matter if he is high/light/flat/whatever  in the pocket carries everything.  the mixed league on weds, which has the owner and gm bowling on it, where the GM is a PBA member probably avg's 230+ and the owner close to 230.  Along with 10 other guys averaging over 220 on that league.

My Thursday nite league,  IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT LANES YOUR ON !!!!!!!    some lanes start out a 10 and goto a 1  and some start out a 1 and goto a 10.  lol
