ability to clean during play
« on: February 11, 2010, 05:51:31 AM »
Bowl in my local city tournament last nite and i went to use some simple green on my ball.  One for the officals tells me i can't use it because it is altering the surface. When i told him to prove it all he would do was point out the rule of no altering but wouldn't look below it to the appoved cleaning. He wouldnt even look on the internet to find the true answer (that i was right).

How do some of these people get those positions.  I am tempted to take a print out of the list of stuff that can be used during play and make that dude eat crow.

guess i'll just have to but those lists in bowling bag for future problems.

I thought you could only use USBC certified cleaners.

That's weird.  Same thing happened at my City Tourney last night.  This guy got lucky no one caught him using Hook It on his Virtual Energy after that first game.  Then he tried to use a cleaner on a different ball after the second game and got caught.  He threw a huge tantrum like a child the rest of the night.  Quite funny.

these people who spend some much time and effort throwing hissy fits over soemone cleaning their balls between games, try worrying about your own game as much and you will be a better bowler for it.

Let'm clean their balls.

If they think they need their ball cleaned during a set, I've got them beat already.

I got called out last week for cleaning my ball mid-game during league, even though I was using Remedy cleaner, which is approved for use ANYTIME during competition, and I told him so.  Regardless, the other person was sure he was right, and since I didn't want to cause a big stink and wasn't absolutely 100% sure I was right, I just let it go.  So now, I carry a copy of the USBC rule and their list of approved cleaners in my bag so I can whip it out if the situation ever comes up again.  BTW, the individual that complained is the Pres and high average in our league, so you would think he would know the rules. (Our league follows USBC rules, with no variations).

Also, remember that leagues and tournaments can have their own specific rules that might differ from standard USBC rules, but if so, it should be stated in the league or tournament rules.  Good idea to check, especially in tournaments.

usuaally these guys complaining that are still throwing LT48''s and Yellow dots and thinking I aint cleaning mine so you aren''t cleaning yours. You cheater!

ps: I generally clean my balls after each game, they push easier and react stronger when clean.   sometimes I will clean it for the 10th frame alone.

Acceptable/Non-Acceptable Ball Cleaners/Polishes
If a product is not found on the list below, consider it to be NOT APPROVED either before, after, or during certified competition.

I sure am glad Remedy Rx is on there.  However, none of Valentino''s other products are.  I guess that means anyone that uses Snake Oil is doing so illegally...?

I also fail to see Bean''s Secret Sauce listed...Hmmmmmm

Note that league and tournament rules can override the standard USBC rule.  Many tournaments, including the USBC Open Championship, do not allow you to clean your ball with anything during play, even one of the "approved at any time" cleaners.

If your league adopts a similar rule, it won't do any good to waive the rule book around.  League and tournament rules can override that one.
