I believe you're talking about the Sarge Easter drilling he uses. Basically, your middle finger is drilled fingertip, and your ring is drilled conventional. This cuts down on the rev rate. It also (from the people I've seen use it) creates more forward roll.
With that said, I've known a couple people who have tried it and nobody has liked it. Robert uses it specifically because of his insane amount of revs. I believe it was Bowling Digest that quoted him as saying "I was getting tired of standing 70", or something along those lines.
