My name is Stephen and I am a House Hack
« on: June 26, 2006, 03:17:16 AM »
So yesterday was the year end tournament for the small series that I bowl in once in a while.  I decided to give it a shot, knowing the lane conditions would be a bit tougher.  I took with me the only 3 balls I own...including a Urethane Beast incase the lanes were bone dry.

While I can't confirm this for sure, but guessing by the ball reaction from everyone..they put down a flat 50' pattern gutter to gutter.  It might have been longer, it might have been shorter.

I can honestly say this was the most humbling experience for me ever.  Also being left handed was a HUGE disadvantage.  I had recently resurfaced my Raw Hammer Doom...and sadly it was the strongest ball I had...so I had to use it.

There was absolutely no room for error when the conditions were fresh..and seeing that there were basically no other lefties...I was bowling on fresh all day. I thought I found a shot in practice that would allow me to compete, but I was wrong.

I had to start with the ball down at my knees to cut down my arm swing and keep the ball slow, but at that same time I really had to hit the ball to get it to move at all.  I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, and my scores would reflect that.  We bowled 5 games of qualifying where I averaged about 158...and one game of match play where I lost 149-162 after opening in the 8th 9th and 10th frames.  I wasn't the only one who struggled, but it was just straight up embarrassing.

I tried to do many things, but none of them seemed to work...I had NO CLUE.

I just wanted to say....I have realized I am nothing but a THS HACK...and I'm not fine with that.  It's time for me to step up and learn how this game works...cuz I refuse to be PUNKED out like that again.

So where do I start?

Thanks for reading.

Look around your area for summer sport/pba leauges. That is a really good way to improve your game, average, and spare game. This summer ive been bowling 2 PBA leauges. Friday night I bowl on a THS tournament. The 3 nights ive done this friday night sweeper I've cashed all 3 nights. This past friday I won the tournament for the 1st time in 2 years bowling the friday night summer sweeper.

Good luck with the tougher shots and future bowling.

If youre a ths hack what does that make me . I have to bowl 3 games on a shot before i can figure out where and how to play it . After the first 3 subpar games I do fine. My problem is there are only 3 games in league.

Hi Stephen.  Welcome to the club, we aren't exclusive.  There are many members, 99% of ballreviews is, just look at the scores from some of the members at nationals.  230 avg guys averaging about 170.  Welcome from all of us hacks!

Seriously, I've been there.  The best thing in that situation is jamming it at the pocket and hoping for the best.  I don't like long oil.  In the future, I will just jam it at the pocket from the corner, go old school and hope I can spare all day.
