GO MIKE CONN
« on: July 16, 2009, 06:06:42 PM »
Best buddy for a long time now, one of the only solid bowlers that lives by me in middle of nowhere kentucky, is holding down 3rd place at Junior Gold right now.
Couldnt think of a better bowler to be in that spot right now. I know his dad was not able to make it up to see him bowl qualifying, which sucks since he shot the tournys first 300. His mom was there the whole time, and I am very happy for her, he has been waiting for a breakthrough season like he is have this year.

I dont care if he averaged 130 from here on out, hes got my respect.
Keep it up mike, you got the whole state of Ky behind you...

Just saw an article on bowl.com about him shooting the first 300 of the tournament.  Cool stuff.  I know the name, but haven't really seen him bowl before I don't believe.

CONGRATS MIKE, YOU DESERVE IT MAN. WE KNEW YOU COULD DO IT ALL ALONG. YOU PLOWED THROUGH QUALIFYING AND NEVER LOOKED BACK. AND BEST OF ALL, YOU TOOK IT WITH STRIDE.
I CANT IMAGINE A BETTER PERSON TO REPRESENT US BACK HOME...ONCE AGAIN, CONGRATS.

John P.-
It was my first time at Junior Gold, I had qualfified before, but never gone. So being it was my first year, I was new to everything.

After the first block, I was -27, and in 172nd place. After the second block, I was -36 and in 128th place, which was inside the cut(cut was 155 and ties). After the 3rd block, I was 198th, and missed the cut by 36 pins.

So for my first time there, only missing the cut by 36 pins, I am pleased. Yes I could have made the cut easy. I had a ton of bad of breaks on the medium shot, the last block. Threw the ball GREAT, the pins just didnt want to fall. Nothing I can do about that. Good run though, I dunno if I will be back next year or not though.

Yes I definitely will...I dont know if I will be coming back or not, I might move up to Adult.

Over the summer, I have changed my form drastically, and I know that made a huge difference in my game. Im sure you remember vividly, I had a stutter step in my approach, and after a working VERY hard all summer, I got rid of it.
I moved up to the second line of dots on the approach, and now have a 4 step approach, no stutter step whatsoever.
I worked 6 or 7 days a week, and ever day after work I would go and practice my game for at least 2 hours, not worrying about scores, only about timing, footwork, and my release.
So anyhow, it looks good, almost textbook, but I am still getting used to it, its not a habit to me yet.

I will continue to work on it throughout the season too. Maybe tweek a few things here and there.

Wow, work ethic, a level head, and a solid practice regimen from a teenager?  I'm impressed.  Good luck, sounds like you'll earn whatever you get.

HamPster...if only you knew exactly how much that means to me...saying it means a lot would be an understatement.

I know I can be better than I am, and I know the only way to the top is to work hard, keep my head out of the clouds, and work with what I am given.

I am honestly surrounded by some of the most knowledgeable people in the game, and for that, I am grateful beyond belief. I know that without my friends and family behind me, I would prolly be nowhere.

Anyhow, as I said, I am going to work hard over the season, and work on my game while keeping my grades up.

Thanks,
Chris

Crispy -- Sorry for being slow to get back with you, I've been out of town for a couple of days.  If you can post a video of your changes, I'd like to see the difference.  Or come on back to Tell City if you get the chance.  Practice is one great key to success.  I've been told by some of the pros that they practice 40+ games a day when they're getting ready for the tournament season.  I've got the feeling that the teams that will be bowling Morehead State this year better watch out!!  I'll be watching for this year's schedule to be posted, I may just show up at a match or two.  --  JohnP
