Help! Need info to help my dad's game...
« on: November 07, 2014, 05:39:58 PM »
MY dad's ball has extremely low track...almost a spinner?
How to I remedy this?  Is it a rotation of the hand thing?

When we go to drill a ball, what types of layouts benefit low track players...or even spinners..the new pro shop operator said pin down, the manager said pin up with a far pin to pap...

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

We had great success getting him to roll it better today...but I'm looking for more ideas, opinions, and solutions...

Today I found that he was laying the ball down and weirdly rotating it at the release. he was rolling it, now he is throwing it.  We moved him more towards friction, and he put speed and touch of loft on the ball and it was starting to slide, hook, roll correctly where I got him to strike 6/10 frames.

Any insights will help,

Thanks,

Billy

I would think lower pins or higher pins would work depending on the reaction he is seeking. Is he topping the ball? Or does he track low? I know Matt O'Grady had a PAP close to 3 and he just got around it so fast, he didn't "top" it.  If your Dad goes too far pin to pap, Id be afraid the ball won't hook.

Need to get him to keep his hand behind the ball at release.  Think ring finger towards target.  He will get less revs, but better carry once he gets used to it.

If his track is very low and the diameter is small, he'll have a PAP in the "normal" range but have high tilt, a spinner.  If his track is very low with a larger diameter he could have a PAP in the 2-3 inch range and not be a spinner.  Big difference between the two in the layouts you will use.

He does get a flairly large track, its not rolling over the same little spot.  Its almost looks like he is a spinner and has a low regular track. If that makes any sense.  He's also like 13mph....

Measure his pap just like anybody else.  Don't be surprised if you get something in the 2-3 inch over range.  When you lay out a ball for him it will look "weak" compared to what you are used to looking at.  It won't be for him. A 4" pin for him will more than likely be left of his middle finger.

Makes total sense, I think you might be totally right.

Get his tilt measured. Then it's easy to figure out layouts
