ABT National Tournament??
« on: September 22, 2003, 04:35:53 AM »
Is anyone going? This will be my first one since '98. How are the conditions there? From what I remember qualifying has a decent shot but the semi-finals were tough. Do they still put out a decent shot for qualifying? Do they still lay out Heavy Oil for the semi-finals? How are the backends during the semi-finals even though they flood the lanes? I am trying to get an arsenal ready and would like to get an idea of what conditions I will be facing. Thanks for input and good luck if you are going.

Thanks,
KOMIKE

Komike - I bowled the Spring National at Sam's Town in 2001 and 2002.  The first year, the cut was +68.  The lanes were tight during qualifying early in the week, but really started to fly by Thursday and were scorched for the semi's.  The Masters cut ended up being +68, but had been +104 when I bowled the noon squad on Wednesday.

2002 was a different story.  The cut was +44.  They used a variation of the sport shot and I was throwing 17-12 and missed the semi's by 17 pins.  There was definitely an out of bounds beyond 10.  If you don't already do so, I'd recommend plastic for your spares, especially for the right side.  3-6-10's were an adventure if you used reactive or particle.  It either went in the gutter or chopped the 3.

Good luck, have fun, and please post how you did when you get back.

Joe

Thanks for the info Joe.....Has anyone bowled the Fall ABT National? Do they always have it at Castaways during the fall and Sams Town for the spring? Is Castaways synthetic or wood approaches? From what I remember about 6yrs ago they were all wood but I heard the lanes are now synthetic but I haven't heard if they changed the approaches or not...If anyone is going next month maybe we can hook up and bowl on the same pair...
