Thought I'd start a new thread rather than hijack Bones' thread.

I've noticed that I have a sort of odd thing about accuracy.  When I target inside of 6 I almost always hit 2 (or more) boards left of what I think I hit; so if I'm looking 6 and think I hit it, I'm really on 8 (or 9).  BUT, if I swing further outside I actually hit what I look at.  So, if I'm looking 3 and think I hit it, I really did hit it.  This according to others who've seen me bowl.  I suspect that this correlates with the fact that I'm far more comfortable playing the twig than I am going deep inside.  I learned to play the twig in college (the 1/2 board was the shot) and always look for a shot there.

Any of the rest of you notice anything like this?  I'm curious to see if the guys that like inside hit what they're looking at more when the can play deep, as opposed to going wide.

Well couple things I can think of off the top of my head would be eye dominance and vision, the other thing would be do you do something different physically when playing 6? Maybe you drift a little, or your arm swing is angled? If its something physical you'll probably need a camera or another good set of eyes to help you out.

Hex, I know that I'm left eye dominant which is in part resonsible.  Just seems odd that I hit what I'm looking at when I'm on the twig.

If you're right-handed and left-eye dominant, like I am, then you're already a little behind the eight ball. The condition you're describing sounds exactly like what I have battled.

I was a competitive rifle target shooter before I ever picked up a bowling ball, so I've had to "fix" myself twice now.

I suspect the issue is body alignment. To play the twig (outside 3) your hips and shoulders are square to your break point (which is at right angles to your target line). However when you play deeper and swing it a little you no longer maintain square to your break point (or keep right angles to your target line). Instead you open up your shoulder and/or drop your shoulder allowing you to send the ball right. This is typical for todays bowlers and is spoken about alot by Bill Taylor... maintaining proper hip/shouldler alignment. In fact there is a famous story Bill tells of David Ozio who was constantly seeing one thing and hitting another only when swinging the ball. Squaring up correctly fixed his problem.

If I'm shooting between 5 & 10 board I always hit between 10 & 15.
I drift 5 boards consistently from that angle.

When I shoot betwwen 12 & 17 I hit what I'm looking at.
I don't drift a board.

If I try to shoot outside 5 board I start with my slide foot in the gutter.
I slide at 7-8 boards right of the target I hit. If I start out lined up square (12 board with feet) shooting outside 5, I end up sliding at 17-18, loosing leverage.

I spent all of last season with a good coach, trying to stop my drift....I finally did...I spot at my breakpoint, which is the pin reflections, I step off towards my the breakpoint, and my drift is gone...of course I don't know if I'm missing at the arrows, I'm not looking there.
