Ache and pains
« on: November 26, 2008, 04:00:28 AM »
I'm thinking about dropping down to 15lbs equipment. I've been experiencing a stiff neck after bowling and a slight headache. What kind of aches and pains have you guys had to deal with when you where throwing 16lbs equipment? Thanks

Is the stiff neck on your bowling arm or your balance arm?

are you eating before you bowl or at least while you are bowling???

reason being, when I don't eat anything before league I am more prone to getting headaches and that could lead to a sore neck. Much like in your case.

Do not know if it pertains to your exact weight, but it could be weak muscles around your rotator cuff (Supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, subscapularis) if one of these muscles are weak they can lead to shoulder problems. I know that you said headache and neck problems are your symptoms. Just something to consider.  With the shoulder being weak, your trapezius muscle (area above your shoulders) might be dealing with a lot more stress to balance out the weakness of your shoulder muscles. This might be leading to your problem.  There are many different exercises that you can do for your shoulder to help strengthen that area.  If your shoulder is not the problem, than maybe you should analyze the pain very closely and figure out what you feel is the exact reason for your sore muscles.

Go get a massage.

I bowl 4 times a week.  2 league nights, 1 sub night and with the kids.

I get a massage once a week now.  I have never felt better.

You could be having C1 problems.
Is your headache in the area f your right side of your head, towards the back.

Read some of the info on this link...

I've been seeing a NUCCA chiro  for about 2 years...
Helped tremendously.

Good reading....

I'm always in some sort of pain, even when not bowling.  Chiro is a huge help if your insurance covers it.  For something cheap that works at home, I swear by epsom salt baths.  Sometimes that's the only thing short of narcotics that gives me relief, even from headaches.

Massage therapy also helps.
I've been inverting for about 3 years, which is a huge help, also.

I used to have horrible pains so I talked with a coach to see if I was doing anything wrong, well I was my push away was too violent which was causing me som elbow and shoulder pain. at my release my back was leaning forward causing me to have a bad lower lumbar problem.

I took about 5 weeks off of bowling, went to the gym to work on my core for my back problems, fixed my approach and folowthrough then I started stretching before I bowl now. problem solved

does inversion really help or is it a gimmick?

It helps the Sympathetic Nervous System open up.
Also decompresses the spinal column.

It has helped with slowing down my Age Related Macular Degeneration, and has helped improve my vision.

Since I started inversion and C1 (NUCCA) adjustments, I can see my face in the mirror, and can see the targets on the lane when I bowl.

There is no hard medical proof, that inversion and NUCCA has helped...I see a retinal specialist every 6 months...Macular Degeneration is a "wait and see" disease, meaning there is no medical treatment for it. Doctors have seen positive physical changes in my eyesight....and have said,to keep doing whatever I'm doing.

I quit inverting for 6 weeks and my vision started to deteriorate again...I'm back to inverting and my vision is better.

In my case it is a miracle in progress.

It has been around for 2000 years.  No gimmick lasts that long.

I have a table coming for help with my Degenerative disc disease on my lumbar region.

I agreee...
I had L4-L5 problems, which the chiro didn't help.
Inversion has helped with my lumbar spine.
