Cracking T-Zone
« on: June 15, 2010, 05:55:23 PM »
Hi,

Back in October, I got a few new pieces, with one being a new T-zone. I have it drilled with grips and an exacticated thumb hole (poured around a silicone mold). Before christmas, this ball had already started to crack around the thumb hole, and is now missing a good chunk right above the thumb hole with a few rings of cracking around it. Its just a matter of time before it completely disintegrates. Before this, I had an old axis spareball, and it lasted forever, until I replaced the perfectly circular thumb hole drilled straight into the ball with a molded thumb hole that actually fit correctly. A few months after drilling it with the molded hole, it began to crack, the same as my current one is pretty much. Is there something about using a slug or molded thumb hole that makes them more likely to crack? or am I just having bad luck? Also, has anyone had any experience with a maxim or white dot cracking like this with a slug or mold thumb hole? I'd be willing to throw a different brand spare ball if it would las longer than this one.

Plastic ball basically all of them now are very sensitve to glue.. Whether for grips or slugs.. Over time they basically all crack or chip out around the fingers.. I try to drill mine with no grips or slug because of that..

I see it with all polyester balls over time. They seem to do what you describe regardless of brand. I've even seen it with the clear ones.

In recent months I went to a Groove Urethane for my spare ball and love it. It's highly polished (it goes pretty darn straight) and if history is any indication, it will be indestructible.

Seems to have gotten worse with Brunswick since they moved the plant to Mexico only, when they had the TX plant open you couldnt get a T Zone to crack.....

There was a Brunswick plant in Texas ?

JustRico, BrunsBob, Verbs, etc., can any of you elaborate on this ?

I've used Brunswick balls for over 20 years and have never had one crack.......regardless of where it was made.

do any of you think being careful to not glue for the top half to full inch would help this problem? I really like the shape, feel, etc of my thumbhole with the mold and would prefer not to try and drill it straight into the ball.
