1revwonder, i pride myself on hand positions, release and ball speed variations. i spend ALOT of my practice time finding new ways to the pocket. i can go over 4th arrow with the inferno out to 10, and i have no issues picking up my corner pins with it as well. i am spending most of my 'crunch' time now trying to become more adept.
this situation would have been more fun to learn on, had it not been at a pot game setting
i don't know that the ball was burning up, since it was making a gradual arc to the pocket and i never saw the thumbhole "roll up" on the back end. it was more of a 'hooking thru the mess' and not finishing more than a roll-out.
i was COOKING it over 3rd arrow to 10, and it would flip and snap right into the pocket. the entry angle with this line was too much, and i left numerous splits and 4 pins.
upon this realization, i toyed with some different releases as well as ball speed. too little hand gave me no discernable 'move' to the pocket, resulting in swish strikes and poor carry. i moved a tad deeper and tucked the pinky, but the over-under was way too unstable. as i said, i finally began the 11-0'clock high armswing and 20ish MPH rev monsters up 5. this worked, since i wasn't letting the ball sit in the dry long enough to burn up. lol, it won me $105 in 2 games... i wish i had the first two back tho!!! fishing is expensive,
Bones, i am looking into some urethane stuff. is there any ball you prefer?

i don't care who makes it, how much it costs, or how sexy the ball looks. can i carry the 7 and level the deck with a $60 ball?
