Adjusting speed/release on spares instead of target?
« on: May 21, 2004, 11:47:25 PM »
I can't, for the life of me, seem to target my spares well..  so i've begun to shoot the same spot, slowing it down and getting my hand under the ball a bit more to shoot anything on the left side, and speeding it up for anything on the right.  is there some reason that i should be avoiding this?

no plastic ball at the moment, just a really really weak reactive as my spare ball, and depending on how the lanes are looking (or if i miss the pocket all together) i use my strike ball (14lb power groove proactive)

i'm also not exactly rolling in the dough, so i'll have to wait a bit before getting a plastic spare ball

well, i just got back from 4 games of practice, thinking specifically about spares most of the game (or at least that what i told myself coming in high soo often), and attempted both ways, and found myself with a clean game through 9 frames.

10th frame?  pocket 10.

can't pick it up.

curses.

anything on the left side is cake, and anything besides the 10 pin on the right is a pretty safe bet, it's just that 10 pin that i can't seem to get down...  i think if over the next month or so i can find some way to get my hands on a plastic ball, and start taking all movement out of my spare ball, that'll help.  at least for right side spares.

There should be plenty of used plastic balls around and if you mainly use it for spares or dry lanes, a multiple times plugged ball should do fine and should be very cheap.

Oracle3410,
Don't forget there are racks of house balls
find a close fit and see how it goes.
Most are plastic. Also learn how to use a ring
finger lead( open palm) and throw the ball end over end.
Stand wide on the left, line up your right shoulder
to the 4th. arrow and roll the ball straight at the
pin, for the 10 pin.  For the 7 pin line up with the
3 rd. arrow. Stand around the 20 board. Again end over
end. Also you can use a lighter ball.   GS
