Removing oil from the ball
« on: January 14, 2012, 09:21:27 AM »
What do you think is the best way to remove oil from the ball? Ive been using power house ball cleaner, has anyone tried the hot water in bucket method?

Asked and answered a thousand times.  Set your controls to be able to view threads a year old.  You'll see them all and the never ending debate about it.  Here's a clue though:  Go to Morich site.

Get a plastic 5 gal bucket and flip it upside down. On most of them there is a small ring in the center of the bottom. Cut this out.

Place the bowling ball under the bucket.

Get your wife’s hair drier and place it in the hole and turn it on high for 5 or so minutes.

Uncover a quickly wipe the oil off the ball.

Turn it 180 degrees and do the process again.

Continue until there isn’t any signs of oil.

I’ve been doing this for several years and have never damaged a ball.

This question or a variation of it appears on this site about once a month or so.  I use the hot water method.  See the MoRich site on their recommended method as Sunshine suggested.

Here are some other links to past topics that I could find.

As Sunshine also said, you may have to go to your Profile page and change to viewing at least one year back to see some of the above links or their replies.

I just throw a few ball cups in the bathtub, load em up, then turn on the hot water until the tub is full. When I pull the balls out I wipe them off and they're good as new

It's nice because I can do 3-4 balls at a time with ease and they're all done about the same time.

As I have stated before, my preferred method is my dishwasher, no soap and no heated dry.  Works perfectly everytime.  Just an automated version of what MoRich recommends.   However, it would seem that PowerHouse has come out with a new oil extraction machine.  As another poster reported after attending a PowerHouse seminar

"Apparently Power House has a new oil extraction unit.  Functionally it appears to be a dish washer.  It's a hot water circulation bath that has some means of removing oil as the water circulates."

Good enough validation to continue to use my dishwasher.  Good luck in your oil extraction endeavors whatever method you choose to use.
