Advice on which pearl to get?
« on: November 16, 2007, 09:45:45 AM »
I am in need of a strong pearl ball, I have one pearl which is a buzz, and it is still up in the air if I match up with it well. The house I bowl at for league use to be a heavier shot, until they started having a league before us so we get second shift, and they are playing more medium than before. my ball I have been using is my Hawgzilla and some nights it works for a little bit, then starts to leave more tens than I would like and if I go to far right it will hit like a wet noddle or roll out and hit the 3-6.

My buzz doesn't seem to want to finish possibly because of the weaker layout I gave it, and I feel there is gap in my arsena; that needs a styrong pearl that will get good length and not read the mids to much, with a hard turn in the back. I have been wanting this so that I can open up the lanes, with enough energy and turn to make it back without leaving the 10 pin as much.

The 2 balls I have narrowed it down to is the Roto Grip Illusion, and Black widow Pearl. I have heard nothing but good things so far about the Illusion, and many good things about the BWP, with a few that weren't so good. I am trying to find out which ball has more steam on the backend, but still gets nice length to it. I will say I am sorta leaning to the BWP but It is still in the air.

Any help you guys could throw in on these 2 balls would help, and which one might suit me the best. Thanks

Of the 2, I'd go Illusion.  Looks like a good ball from the vids & reviews I've seen.  Storm also has some good ones.

I have no comment on the Illusion, i've only seen the videos. The Black Widow Pearl is an extremely strong pearl and is very tuneable with surface changes and layout options. I am very satisfied with mine to be a Medium+ strong pearl ball, it has surprised me with the fact it is earlier than I expected but it has a very nice strong back end and is easily controlled for me.

I would defiantly recommend the BWP it fits the bill IMO.

I know it is a little off the beaten path, but a look at the visionary immortal pearl might be worth your time.

The ball has a reasonably strong coverstock, but has the strongest flaring core you can possibly get today.  The only reason it is legal is that it was approved before the U.S.B.C. changed the ruling on differential, but it is perfectly legal for use in all U.S.B.C. events, leagues, and tournaments.

I used mine last night for the second time.  Ball flares quite a bit more than I was used to, so my first set was a bit lackluster ( 615 ), but after changing my release a bit and letting the ball " do its thing ", I shot games of 288-252-224 for a 764 series.

Might not be just what you are looking for, but it has good length and a strong backend move.  Never quit on me either, had good continuation through the pindeck also.

Just remember, it is most likely going to flare more than you are used to, and for me, seems to handle more oil than my other pearls because of this.

Juggernaut, yes I have looked at the immortal pearl, but like you are saying from what I know it is a stronger than most pearls, and I ain't really looking for something that strong, and my ball driller is OLD SCHOOL, and the immortal pearl you have to like find the MB or something before laying it out, it would be to much of a risk letting him layout that ball.

So far I have seen a few suggest the Illusion a, and a few say the BWP, anbymore want to share their knowledge on what they have seen with these balls so far.

I am also looking for longevity, I know the roto grip wilkl be a durable ball, I have heard Roto Grips are pretty durable. I am wondering about the BWP, if it will be anything like the original, which I have never had a problem wih reaction wise. Being that it is a pearl and they are normally a harder surface, not letting oil in as much, it would be a little better in the longevity department.

Before you buy a Blakc Widow Pearl, find someone that has one and throw it. I was using a Track Machine on the same lane as a BWP and the Machine had more length, hooked more at the breakpoint, and carried much better.

I was thinking about gett a BWP. After seeing it on the lanes, I changed my mind.  Of course, it may not be fair to compare it to the Machine.

Lane Hammer, I too have a BUZZ and mine doesn't finish well either. Just doesn't have the "pop" on the backend like some of my other balls have. It is drilled Pinunder RF and CG out a bit. (4 1/4 x 3 1/2)

i know maybe u havent thought of it or maybe just passed it by on decision but u should look at the nighthawk pearl i just drilled two of them up and it is incredible reaction and very versitile to drillings.  it has quite a bit of length but for me does have a good finish and pop at the end

Just for kicks I would say the fury pearl. It has a very strong finish. Alot stronger then the black widow pearl. When it hits dry boards it moves and moves quick
