I Video'd Myself . . . and Want to DIE!!!
« on: December 08, 2003, 09:16:29 PM »
i'm not the greatest bowler . . . have some health problems (knee and lower back) now and only averaging mid 180's, but should be close to 200 . . .

went out with a really good bowler and set up the video camera last friday . . .  of course he looked awesome . . . but i'm sooooo far on the side of the ball for the last 2 feet of my release it's disgusting!!!  talk about a total loss of power and leverage!!!  i'm just sick!

i have to bowl in my league tonite, and i'm totally psyched out!!  i don't know why i'm posting this . . . i guess i just want someone to pray for me!!

i don't have time to change this afternoon, but i'm sure gonna work on it, and some other things, in the near future.

so everyong put me on your list!  i'm off to cry . . .

I was pretty horrified when I saw myself on tape. I don't really think about that anymore. I did really work on timing after that (A LOT) but I haven't taped since. New phobia (fear of bowling video tape).

Badshot,
I have knee and back issues also and was totally inconsistant in my approach and my release, so my ball reaction suffered and was hard to read. I worked with a PBA pro( Joey Cruz in Virginia) and after videotaping me, he recommended that I lose the pushaway start and go to a hinge swing ... a straight drop from my setup point. It has done wonders for me ... my balance is better, approach is smoother, ball reaction is more consistent, and my average is up. It took some getting used to, but with practice, it's really helped !!! Also, it has taken pressure off of my knee and back !!!

I have to concur with the prevailing opinions here.  I just taped myself for Ron Clifton, and it makes me brace myself for the worst.  I just saw so many things wrong with my swing.  And if I saw someone else throwin it like I do, I would be tempted to give them tips!  Never again will I think I know what I look like when I bowl.

I think video taping is a great thing to do in any kind of activity, public speaking, sports, bowling etc.  I think a lot of times people (myself included) know how something SHOULD look but when they attempt to emulate that image, come up with something far from desired.
