Aiming for the drifter?
« on: April 02, 2010, 01:57:59 AM »
Okay, this seems to be the last thing that I really need to work on. I've been doing an overhaul of my game, and everything has come together great to this point, but I need help from the drifters on this site on how they actually aim the ball? To this point I just kind of visualize what I want to accomplish, look at the breakpoint through the first 2 steps of my approach and then I pretty much check out in terms of looking at anything at all. I could probably close my eyes after my second step and be fine.

I currently have 8 boards of drift to the left, and I'm wondering how everyone else on here that has a lot of drifts aims.

How do you visualize what you're going to accomplish at the starting position? Where do you look in the starting position?

Oh, because I know it will be referenced at some point, I have read Ron C's high planes drifter series of articles.

Hey, don't perfect-plex me please.

I personally drift about 5 boards left from start to finish.  What I do for a targeting system is just look at the area/board I want to hit just like everybody else.  But what I do know about being a drifter is that I tend to hit 2 boards left of my target when it looks to me that I have hit that target.  I think it's tied to that whole point of reference/parallax thing you learn in physics class because of my drift.

I would say just practice hitting a mark, and capture yourself on video to see if you are really hitting that target when you believe you are.  That's probably one of the biggest additions to my game lately, knowing I hit a few boards left than what I originally thought.

Hope this helps!
