I miss bowling
« on: June 28, 2009, 11:38:07 AM »
Like many others, I got caught in the economic problems when my company went bankrupt and closed the doors. I was lucky enough to find another job pretty quickly, but here is the problem.

The company I work for now is a convenience store supplier. They make deliveries to stores at all hours of the day or night. I have no seniority here and am basically "on call". I never know exactly when I am going to leave, where I am going, or how long I'll be gone, so I cannot commit to bowling on any leagues.

They have set routes, but they are assigned by seniority, so the chances of me getting anything decent anytime soon aren't really very good.

I really love bowling, and really looked forward to my "night out" with friends who enjoyed it as well.  Guess that won't be happening again for a while.

You guys who have schedules and jobs that allow you to bowl, appreciate what you have, it could evaporate overnight, just like mine did.

I would bet that those people you have bowled with miss you, too. Hopefully you'll rejoin the league sooner than later.

The good news is that you're working. There are plenty of people struggling with employment issues during this crazy economy.

Maybe you can sub on different leagues, different nights?

Check to see if they have a flex time or afternoon league that's OK with pre bowling.  You can make as many scheduled days as possible and make up those you can't.  There was one here when I first moved to NC that was surprisingly competitive.  They even offered unlimited practice day time during the week.  Ask around, you might have an option you hadn't thought of yet.

Didn't think he was trying to get in a league .. looks like the current ON CALL job has him un-available!

Glad you're employed.  But I would also make the rounds to see where leagues are, when the start and see if you can show up to sub.  Maybe some teams might need a fifth member if the league allows it and the team will be flexable and let you bowl when your schedule allows.

Good luck.
