All particle arsenal
« on: June 01, 2005, 05:15:51 AM »
Anybody have an all particle arsenal? I've been thinking about putting one together for a while now. How do you have your arsenal set up? How do you have the cover and how do you have them drilled (bowlingballs)? Anybody have any ideas how they would set theres up if they wanted one? I hear Brunswick makes the best particle balls, does anyone have a preference as to what ball company they would use to put it together? Please include particle pearl to. I know there are some old school strokers who have one. Thanks

So what you're saying is that a higher rg particle ball with the right drill and cover change can handle light to dry conditions. Does anybody have any examples of higher rg particle bowlingballs or maybe even particle pearl?

You also need an overall aggressive ball (cover and core) with that high of Rg, like the Rule GP2 (2.57). Those 2 factors will help overcome the higher Rg. Most other balls are 2.48-2.52, in general, from what I have seen over the past couple of years.

A few years back, there was a very good thread on higher Rg bowling balls being better for some/most people. They don't bleed extra energy early from their higher Rg, etc.

Go to all of the manufacturers sites and look at the Rgs of all of the bowling balls. The only other higher end particle with a higher than average Rg is the Goliath. Balls like the Big Hits/Hits, that have high Rgs, will get through the heads, but they get through because the core is not aggressive and is not what you want on a flood. It is very rare you find a high performance/mid perf with higher Rgs nowadays.

The Nighthawk Revenge, which I had a couple of, was awesome (I shot 300 in a non-sanctioned tourney with it) had a higher Rg (2.57-2.58 somewhere in there, and was a particle pearl) and I had success with it. Higher Rg balls that have an aggressive cover/core mathc up to my game VERY well, especially particle solids!

It would be interesting to take a Storm Hit Particle, put a weak drill on it, and polish the jeebus out of it and see what it's like on dry lanes.  Anyone see this?

if i had to choose i'd have an all reactive arsenal before i'd have an all particle arsenal. i like particle balls for when the lanes are slick and a dull reactive isn't enough. i also think they work well on wet-dry conditions. however, when the oil in the heads starts to dry up i'll switch to a reactive ball.

i would have to back what greg just said.
when there is a huge wet/dry diffential, particle seems to blend it out the same way a SUPER low RG reactive would.  Personally I have struggled with particle equipment, and have used on and off 20 particle balls.  The only one I have really liked was the Lane #1 Carbide (blue).  It rolled VERY hard and still managed to flip, even with my very high track.  But still, for the most part I prefer reactive, also reactive tends to last longer before dying out.  If you tend to spin the ball a lot, then maybe it may be in your best interest to stack your arsenal with that type of coverstock.  But the main idea is to match up to the conditions you bowl on, and if you only bowl at 1 centre in 1 league that is freshly dressed with a big wet/dry and screaming backends, maybe you could get away with just using particle...

I am 100% going to do the 8 ball GP2 arsenal, take it everywhere I go, and may/probably have some other balls as well. I know 8 is probably too many, but I am like a kid in a candy shop. Plus, you guys can debate me about this for the next year. I hope I am right, but if I am not, so be it. I can spread my info and let everyone know how it worked well, how it didn't work, etc. If you never try something, you will never get ahead. I have not got to where I am today by doing what the person next to me does.

If this works for me, then you may see some people do this more often, but, the truth in the matter is you have to have confidence in what you are doing (I am doing something here not many, if any of you would do by drilling 4-6-8 of the same ball and trying to cover everything you see), you have to have confidence in your game to be able to adapt as you longer can change your line by simply going to a different ball as every ball in the bag is the same, just different drills and covers, and finally, you have to have confidence in each ball in your bag. If one ball makes you feel funny or you get a bad break with the same ball over and over, that will cause a problem when every ball in your bag is the same ball.

I am doing this simply as a test to myself and my customers, basically trying to show how versatile 1 ball can be.
