I don't know that it's that big a deal... The real problem is not the fact that he/she is proud of their honor scores, it is the fact that either they are 1) obnoxious and overbearing about it OR 2)you don't have them and are jealous OR 3)you think only you are good enough to shoot honor scores, and anyone else that has one obviously shot it on a wall and is a house hack.
Please note, the "you" mentioned above is not aimed at any ony in particular, just a generalization. Please remember that 95% of league bowlers are, in fact, what many on this board would call "hacks" - myself included. I am not a pro, and at this point in my life, I've
almost accepted that I'll never be one. However, if I ever do get my first 300 or 800, I will probably pay for the gold upgrade regardless of whether it was shot on a THS or Sport Compliant Condition. Seriously, why wouldn't you do that for the first one? And, I'll probably wear them on my non-bowling hand. Although, I hope I will have enough class not to bring it up to anyone unless they ask first LOL
. If I am lucky enough to slop out 3 or 4 300's or 800's, the successive ones will not be upgraded, and will not be worn. The first ones, though, I think would be special enough to do so.
I do have another question regarding the display of awards... when did it become uncool to be proud of your accomplishments on the lanes? I think I only know of one guy who still has bowling award patches sewn onto a bowling shirt who actually wears it to league occasionally - and he's well into his 70's. Seems like I used to see that sort of thing a lot more 15 years ago. The attitude now seems to be that if you're not a pro and you're not bowling on an impossibly difficult lane condition, you don't deserve honor scores or awards? When did this happen?
