The first bowler should be the one who will get the team off to a good start.  The last bowler, the anchor, should be the best under pressure, in case the game comes down to them.

I am not sure if I should be the anchor.  Our 2nd bowler was finishing strong the first 3 weeks usually striking out on his last 5 balls.

Now in the last 2 weeks I have been finishing the strongest and the other guy not striking so much in the 8th 9th and 10th frames.

yeah our 122 guy throws with so much power and no aim.  He is all over the place. We try to coach him but he gets mad when you try to help him. Its almost sort of kills you spirit to watch this guy start off a game, or atleast it does for me.

He had no idea that there was such a thing called a pocket until last week. I ain't kidding.

I'll suggest the change this week.

This is how we have our lineup  set in the mens league that I'm in;

1st - 204(me)
2nd - 176
3rd - 195
4th - 194
5th - 188

I just realized that this post is about a 4 man squad, but this is how our line up is set up.  I'm not saying this is the best way to do it, but it works for us, we've been in the top 7 both halves out of 26 teams.  Also, 1 thing we have is great team chemistry, we are one of the only teams that seems to be having fun, most teams socialize, which we do, but we kid each other, and help each other, and we pick each other up when we make a bad shot.  Team chemistry is so important to have for a team to be good.

Our first bowler, me, I can string some strikes, & pick up a lot of spares to set the pace.
Our second bowler is mostly there to give us his money, but will surprise you when you least expect it.
Our third bowler slumped from the get go, but has come on strong, and has the highest average he has had in the last 5 years or so, & has been challenging me for high series for a little while now.
Our fourth bowler is new to the team, but gelled right away, and is consistant, and will pop some big games here & there.
Our fifth bowler, used to be our best bowler, but seems to have had a permanent senior moment most of the year, but usually comes through when we need him to.

We are really good as a team, but only good as individuals.

The more fun / chemistry you have the better your team will be.

P.S. No one on our team gets mad & hits or throws things, not without the team getting on his case.

On a 4 man team, I've bowled in every position, so I think the lowest average bowler can be either 2nd or 3rd. I would say you need to have your strongest spare shooter in the first position, and the one who can close games out well (usually your highest average guy) in the anchor position.

On a 5 man team, my college coach used to put the worst bowler 3rd, which would upset me a lot as I bowled in that position a good portion of my college career even though I was second high in the conference in average for those years...

On my Monday league I bowl either 1st, 4th or 5th depending on who else is bowling that night, and I bowl anchor on my Tuesday night team...

the second guy should be the lowest average, and the least clutch.

First guy should be above average to get a good lead off, and the second to last should be a good setup man for the anchor who should be the most clutch.
