Almost 7
« on: January 18, 2004, 11:53:20 PM »
I Have never shot 700 before in my life only been close once actually....Today I went to the alley to pre-bowl and make up some weeks I had missed....My first set I go 190,209,266 for 665......I was thrilled to have 665....Then my next two games (on my 2nd set) were 224 and 246....I was so frustrated that those 3 games weren't in the same set....Has this ever happened to anyone?....Bright side is I guess I know I can shoot it now...

Thats great bowling.  Just give it time.  A friend i bowl with on mondays has never shot a 700 either but in our 4 game league he has shot a few 700s with the last 3 games, since doing that his confidence has increased a ton and is shooting 600 more often and shooting bigger games now more often. I sure his 700 is just right around the corner just like yours.  Keep up the great bowling.

Kinda sounds like me.  I've never had a sanctioned 300 before, but I have had 17 strikes in a row.  I had the last 10 of my second game and the first 7 in my third game.  It's harsh!

Thomas- the 700 series will happen when you least expect it. My freshman year of college I struggled in my Sunday night home league and shot 450. The following week my bowling coach had his son hold a 2 hour clinic for the bowling team and I worked on a few things as far as my hand release and ball speed. That following Sunday I threw my first 700 series- a 706- and I think I threw another 10 series over 700 in that league alone. Once it happens, the floodgates should open, but others are right in saying that you need to just bowl naturally, not for honor scores, and take the series one frame at a time.

If it makes you feel better, I shot at least 15 680-690 scores before I finally broke it, then they've come fairly regularly.  I literally had 2 699 and a 698 before I broke it.

I would keel over on the spot if I shot 699.  691 was bad enough (and yes, I'm still waiting for the first sanctioned 700)

Before I get lambasted, I'd like to point out that I was happy with my 691, don't get me wrong.  It was 30 clean frames  I thought I tossed away 700 in the middle of the game.  It only dawned on me after a stone 8 pin on the 11th ball of the last game that if that ball had been a strike, I would have just squeaked over with 701.

Oh well, there's always next week to try again, right??

Back in the mid 80's (right after joining the adult leagues), I shot 699 and 697 within 3 weeks.  I did finally get a 700 during the summer.  You'll get there.  I never like to see what I "need" to make a certain series.  That seems to become my new max score instead of 300.
