Urethanes...
« on: November 18, 2004, 05:33:17 AM »
Do any of you hear still think it's worth having an older urethane ball? If so, would the mostly be used for light oil to dry conditions? Also, would pin placement and topweight still be an issue with these balls as well. Thanks again.

Yes. Yes. Yes.

Mine's a black hammer, label drill, polished slightly.

Yea, urethane is still very handy to have around. Especially on sloppy, dry shots that everything else jumps on, urethane will be right there when you need it.

Thanks you guys, but I need to know if pin placement and topweight will be a factor as well.

Depends on the particular ball.  I have a Thuderflash which is a relatively modern urethane with a strong core.  Pin position absolutely matters.  I also have a Pink Hammer which doesn't even have a marked pin, but static weights do matter somewhat.

The only urethane ball with a dynamic core that I'm aware of being made now is the Slate Blue Gargoyle.  The XXL is no longer in production.  Any other current urethanes or the classic urethanes, pin out doesn't make any difference.  Top weight matters only for producing static weight imbalance.  --  JohnP

Yes, very worth it, especially a 16# single drill blue nail urethane with less than 10 games....WAIT A MINUTE, look at that!  I happen to have one!!  Wow aren't you lucky?!?

But seriously, it is worth it.  Always a spot.
